Kenneth McClain Obituary

Kenneth D. McClain

Jackson, MS

Kenneth Dean McClain (Bull), 78, passed away Thursday afternoon February 21, 2013 at his home. Visitation will be 11am until the 1:00pm funeral service Tuesday, February 26 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment will follow at Lakewood South Memorial Park.

Bull was born November 24, 1934 in Clarksdale, MS, the son of Grover Cleveland McClain and Blanche Hamilton McClain. He graduated from Clarksdale High School in 1952 and served in the USAF- COMSEC in Nagoya, Japan. Upon his return he attended and graduated from Delta State College in 1961. While attending Delta State, he met the love of his life, Tommie Lancaster Lee. It was common to walk in the house and find them dancing in the living room. They slept holding hands, a true picture of love. He gave her the name "Pretty Girl," and they held hands and said prayers together every night.

In 1963 they moved to Jackson, and he went to work as the Supervisor for the Jackson District Office of the MS State Tax Commission. After retiring from there he worked and ran the MS State Tax Commission Federal Credit Union and did freelance work for Jackson Specialty Advertising. He served previously as a Reserve Hinds County Deputy.

Bull loved going to Martins, Crossroads, This Is It, and The Room, to visit with friends. He and his wife Tommie played golf for many years and were charter members of Brookwood Country Club. He was an avid Ole Miss fan, and most of all cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren who loved getting big hugs from their "Granddaddy" and "Papa Mac".

Survivors include the love of his life, wife Tommie Jean McClain; children, Dixie Lee Litton of Jackson, Steven Layfette Lee (Mae) of Brandon, Beverly Lee Durham of Starkville, Vicki Lee Potter (Billy) of Brandon and Laura Lee Mosley of Raymond; brothers Boyd McClain (Joy) of Evanston, IL and Doug McClain of Byram; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephew; many precious neighbors and friends.

Waiting to greet him at heaven's door, were his sister Polly Keel, granddaughter Bonnie Turner and son-in-law George Mosley, Jr.

The family wishes to express thanks to the physicians and staff of CMMC, Dr. Grace Shumaker, Dr. Steven Zachow, Dr. Martin Newcomb, MS Home Health Care, Home Instead Senior Care, Compassionate Hospice and special thanks to Michelle, Emily and Candy.

Kenneth was a rare individual who really cared about people. When he was with the credit union, I applied for a car loan. He looked at the papers from the dealer, picked up the phone & talked the dealer into lowering the price. He said he did not like to see anyone cheated. Thats the kind of man
he was. He will be missed!
