Loreas Eaton Obituary
Loreas Eaton, 83, formally of Woodland, MS, went to Heaven on January 23, 2008. Born into this world on February 1, 1924, in Woodland, MS to Calvin Edgar Eaton and Rendie Lou Logan Eaton, she was the seventh of ten children. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mattie Lou and Virgie Louise; brothers, William Thomas, James Edward, Harvey Lee, Burkett Linwood, Calvin Leon, and Floyd Logan. After graduating from Woodland High School in 1943, she attended Mississippi State College for Women. She then went on to work at the Mississippi Highway Patrol and then worked at the Baptist Children's Village in Jackson, MS, where she was housemother, raising many girls. She moved to Cleveland, TN in 1987 and was an active member of First Christian Church, working mostly with the children. She was an enduring friend to many. July 21, 1999, was named "Loreas Eaton Day" by her friends and family of Amity Baptist Church in Woodland, MS.
She leaves behind her chosen family, daughter, Karen (J.E.) Criddle, of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren, Paula (Jon) Johnson of Cleveland, TN, Stephania (John) Rogers, Orlando, FL, and Scott (Amy) Criddle of Cleveland, TN; grat-grandchildren, Andy (Michele) Wells, Faith (Justin) Johnson, Lilly (Evan) Rogers, and Katelyn (Brian) Criddle; one brother, Henry J. (Jeannine) Eaton of Pearl, MS, many nieces and nephews, and special friends of the Dorcas Sunday School Class, (Paul Truitt Baptist Church, Pearl, MS) and Kingsbury Sunday School Class, (First Christian Church, Cleveland, TN).
Services in Cleveland, TN were held Thursday, January 24, 2008. Local services will be Saturday, January 26, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Houston Funeral Home in Houston, MS with Dr. Stanley McDaniel and Rev. J.R. Eaton officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Woodland, MS. Houston Funeral Home in Houston, MS is in charge of local arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Andy Eaton, James Oliver, Guy Eaton, Rodney Eaton, Roy Hill, Mitch Caples. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Wells, Richard "Bo-Dick" Eaton, Ellis Marshall.
