Marjorie Dickerson Ferguson

Marjorie Ferguson was born Marjorie Audell Dickerson on November 23rd, 1935 in Sallis, Attala County, Mississippi, the third of six children to Gus William and Emma Lee Waddell Dickerson. She was raised in Attala and Holmes Counties and graduated valedictorian of her high school class in Durant, Mississippi. She went to work for South Central Bell Telephone Company where she met William C. "Bill" Ferguson. They married in 1956 and were married for sixty-four years.

She was predeceased by her husband, William C. Ferguson Sr., three siblings, Mildred Jenkins, Norman Dickerson, and Curtis Ray Dickerson as well as one son-in-law Ricky T. Fulton, and a granddaughter Angela Fulton Massey.

She died at home with family in Birmingham , Al and is survived by her three children, Teresa Cook (Lane) of Honey Grove, Texas, Linda Smith (Dane) of Covington, Louisiana, and Dr. William C. Ferguson Jr. (Susan) of Birmingham, Alabama. Seven grandchildren: Chelsie Fulton (Steven), Carrie Guyllette (Rocky), Tara Albers (Chris), Sarah Smith, William C. Ferguson III (Allison), Rose Ferguson (Justin), and Audrey Ferguson. Eight greatgrandchildren: Levi, Holley, McKenna, James, Thomas, Dallas, Alexis, and Ryllie.

She is also survived by two sisters Eva Herod of Enterprise, Mississippi, and Nora English (Ray) of Madison, Mississippi, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marjorie was known by her family as "Queenie" regarding her claim to being the Hopscotch Queen of Atalla County in the 1940's and definitely, the champion of all family scrabble games. She is well-loved by all who knew her and will be missed. We will have a Graveside Service at the Durant, MS, Cemetery on November 21 at 1:00 PM, then meet at First Baptist Church for fellowship and remembrance.
