Mary Perkins Obituary

Mary Henry Perkins, 80, of Marks, MS died Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Quitman County Nursing Home, after an eleven year battle of Alzheimer's. She was the wife of James W. Perkins, deceased. Mary was a member of the Marks United Methodist Church since 1948 and for many years was very active in her church. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. with services to follow at the follow at the Methodist Church, today, November 2, 2006. Officiating will be Dr. Laurie V. Jones, Jr. and The Reverend Charles Simmons with interment at Marks Cemetery.

She is survived by her son, Randy A. Perkins, and granddaughter, Elisabeth B. Perkins of Marks and daughter, Judith P. Spradling, and her husband, Jack K. Spradling of Florence.

Mary Perkins was born in Birmingham, Ala. and after high school graduation, married James W. Perkins and then moved to Marks, MS. Mary and James were former owners of Piggly Wiggly grocery, The Wild Duck and Twin Oakes Greenhouses. She loved flowers and was well known throughout the Delta for growing beautiful plants of all varieties.

She was active in community affairs and just prior to her admittance, was a volunteer at the "Nursing Home." She was an excellent cook, and will be remembered for her wonderful recipes that she shared freely with friends and loved ones.
