Michael Joe (Mickey) Packer

Michael Joe (Mickey) Packer, 65, passed away peacefully with his sister and brother in law by his side August 25, 2017 at St. Catherine's Village. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 9-11:00 a.m. at Natchez Trace Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. August 29, 2017 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, MS. Located at 759 Hwy 51. Interment will be at Natchez Trace Memorial Park

Mickey was born was on October 26, 1951 to Herbert and Bobbie Packer in Jackson, MS. He attended Van Winkle Elementary, Chastain Jr. High, and Murrah High School where he graduated in 1969. He attended Mississippi State University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1973. He enjoyed a successful career as a Mortgage Banker with Cameron Brown and later First Union, where he received many awards including the "Master's Award". Mickey retired from First Union in 1990 after he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. He loved all kinds of sports as a spectator and an athlete. He was an avid golfer, tennis player, and loved to fish, deer, and especially duck hunt. Mickey was also a tireless volunteer for the Mississippi Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Where he served on the board and was president. He even received the "Breath of Life" Award from the MS Cystic Fibrosis Chapter. Mickey always had a special way with people. His kind, gentle nature (that he got from his mom) and wicked sense of humor, has always made him a friend to almost anyone he met.

He is preceded in passing by his parents, Herbert and Bobbie Packer.

Mickey is survived by his one son, John Clark Packer of Madison, MS., one sister Terri Packer Robinson and her husband Keith of Madison, MS., Aunt Lucille Grantham of Ridgeland, MS., Uncle Cecil Packer and his wife Patsy of Clinton, MS., Uncle Morris Taylor and his wife Sue of Canton, MS., special friend and caregiver Julia Gray, along with a host of loving cousins, and longtime friends.

A special thank you to the Staff of St. Catherine's Village Sienna Center, especially his nurse Priscilla Sullivan & caregiver Wanda Rouser.

In Lieu of flowers the family wishes all donations be made the to the Mustard Seed, 1085 Luckney Rd Brandon, MS 39047.

Rev. Barry Grantham will officiate the service.
