Nancy Cahill Obituary

Nancy Cahill

Clinton

Nancy Neal Williams Cahill passed away at the age of 68 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MS on October 28, 2011. Nancy was born on December 8, 1942 in Washington D.C. to Gladstone Ellis and Nancy Neal Williams.

Nancy was a proud graduate of Clinton High School in 1960 and of Mississippi State College for Women in 1964. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and went on to teach at McLain High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Soon after moving to Tulsa, Nancy married her childhood sweetheart Charles Cahill in 1964. In 1970 the couple moved back to Clinton where Nancy went to work at her father's real estate office. Realizing her gift was teaching, she quit her job and went back to teaching for the Clinton Public School System at both Sumner Hill and Clinton Junior High and remained there until her retirement in 2008. During this time Nancy went to Mississippi College and received her Master's and Specialist Degrees in Social Studies. She made history come alive through her unique teaching style of remarkable story telling. Her generosity toward her students started at the beginning of each year when she gave out her home phone number and address and made herself available to her students and parents. Nancy particularly relished in helping students who may not have been so eager to learn or who had behavioral issues. Because of her compassion, she was always able to reach their hearts.

Not only was Nancy an amazing caregiver to her students but also to her family. She had provided custodial care for her brother, Gladstone E. Williams Jr. (Butch) for the past several years. She also cared for her immediate family and adored her grandson, Neal.

Nancy was named as Clinton's Outstanding Young Woman in 1975 and also severed as the first female President of Clinton's Chamber of Commerce. She also received several other awards and accolades throughout her lifetime.

Nancy had a wide circle of friends who will miss her phone calls, food, encouragement and love. Her influence will live on in the accomplishments of those she impacted through her loving life.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 47 years Charles Robert Cahill, daughter Beth Cahill Robinson, son-in-law Ron Robinson, daughter Katie Cahill Burleson, son-in-law Brent Burleson, grandson Neal Burleson and brother Gladstone E. Williams Jr.

Arrangements: Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov 1, 2011 from 5:00pm-8:00pm and Wednesday, Nov2, 2011 from 10:00am-11:00am At Lakewood Memorial of Clinton. Service will follow Wednesday's visitation.

Mrs. Cahill was the best teacher I ever had, she made learning fun. I wish my children could experience a teacher like her. Teachers come and go but I have never forgotten her and never will. I also made a heck of a castle project that year, it was a cake, so we got to eat it for a snack. My prayers are with her family.

Mrs. Cahill, you touched the lives of so many people/students and had the amazing gift to make each one of us feel special. You were the first teacher that ever called my parents to tell them that I had done something good in class and I know that my mother will never forget that. Wether you intended to or not you made yourself available and made a difference in my life that I will always cherish. I hope that my children encounter a teacher half as good as you were. May the road rise with you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, and may the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again may God hold you in the hallow of his hand- Irish Blessing

Mrs. Cahill was a very special woman, and she never wasted a moment of her life. She loved her students very dearly, and anyone with eyes and sense could see that from miles away. She will forever live in my memory.

Beautifully written for a beautiful woman. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Mrs. C was a blessing to so many of us with her unconditional love and true caring. I am so glad to have had her as my teacher, someone to look up to and later, as an adult, a friend. She Is the one, while I am teaching, I often think, "how would she handle this situation?" Thank you Mrs. Cahill for nurturing and raising so many of us. You are a part of so many of us!! Bless you and your family.

If one parent stands out most from all the kids in the class of 96, Ms. Cahill is it. She lit a fire of education in all of us, and showed us how to be the people she knew we could be. God bless her soul, and I can only pray Neal has the same spark in his soul. Blessings and prayers for the family.

"Mrs. Cahill, you were such a great teacher and humble person that I admired very much. I remember when I first moved to Clinton in the 7th grade and I saw that I was going to be your teacher for Social Studies and Study Hall with Mr. Carollo. I did not know what I was in store for at that time until the first day I met you. From then on I knew that I was going to be apart of something special. I cannot express how deeply saddened I am at this moment in writing on this guest book. Your passion for teaching meant so much to me as a student and your knowledge and great spirit will live on forever. I will miss you so much and may God bless you forever!!!"

Mrs. Cahill was, by far, the best teacher I have ever had. Mrs. Cahill taught me my first year at Clinton Public Schools in the 7th grade. She was always thoughtful of each and every student. She asked me one day if there was anything that she was doing wrong or if there was anything that she could do to better her students and me. I will never forget that moment becuase, to this day, I have never seen a teacher so compassionate toward their students. She was very kind and such an insperation to every life she touched. Mrs. Cahill will be missed dearly. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
