Precious Martin Obituary

Precious Tyronne Martin, Sr.

Ridgeland

Precious Tyronne Martin, Sr., 41, of Ridgeland, went to be with the Lord on May 11, 2014. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 20, at 2:00 pm at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church (Watkins Dr.) in Jackson with an in-church viewing from 1-2 pm. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 19, from 1-3:30 pm at Lakeover Memorial Funeral Home and from 5-7 pm at New Hope Church.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, on September 27, 1972, to the late Warren L. Martin, Sr., and Elinder S. Martin, Precious was raised in his beloved hometown of Edwards, MS. He graduated Salutatorian as the "Star Student" of Raymond High School in 1990; and in 1994, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tougaloo College. He went on to attend the University of Mississippi School of Law, where he won numerous awards. Precious received his Juris Doctorate degree and entered the legal profession in 1997.

He began his career at Byrd & Associates, where he was named partner in 2002. He went on to form Precious Martin, Sr., and Associates, "Real People Helping Real People." Attorney Precious Martin, Sr., made history when he became the first African American President of the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association in May 2005. He was a vigilant advocate and friend in the legal community, primarily handling cases for individuals injured through no fault of their own and who could not otherwise afford quality legal representation. A significant amount of the law firm's time is dedicated to pro bono (free) projects. Precious demonstrated his zeal, regardless of an individual's position or station, and extended his spirit of servitude and giving by sponsoring an annual "Back to School Supply Giveaway."

"Ty", as he was affectionately called by his mother and family, was a proud and devoted husband and father. He and the children recently discovered the joy of fishing. Traveling was an adventure the family frequently enjoyed, often to professional basketball games. His children were his ultimate joy. He took great pride in coaching the boys' football teams; and his smile was never as bright as when he attended the girls' dance recitals.

He was the host of the popular weekly radio talk show "Talk of the Town," which was one of his most prized accomplishments. He used the show to inform, inspire, and illuminate the issues important to our community. Precious, a member of New Hope M.B. Church in Jackson, loved God, his family, and fellow man.

He is survived by: his loving wife, Attorney Crystal Wise Martin; his four children, Precious, Jr., Daniel Elias, Alyssa Diane, and Anna Grace; his mother, Elinder S. Martin; his four brothers, Ivan R. Smith, Sr., Attorney Deshun T. Martin (Vaterria), Pastor Kenya R. Martin (Tommie), and Attorney Warren L. Martin, Jr. (Ericka); father and mother-in-law, Mark and the Honorable Patricia Wise; sister-in-law, April Ross (Jamie); ten nieces and nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and church members.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tougaloo College.

Our city is indebted to Attorney Precious Martin for coming to our aid in time of great political trial. We can never thank the family enough for the sacrifice made to insure that justice was done. He was just the partner we needed in the heat of battle. Though "thank you" seems insufficient, it is the greatest tribute. Will miss him.

May 20, 2014

I've never met him personally but heard nothing but good things about him.

To The Martin & Wise Family

It is true we bring nothing into this world,
And nothing we take when we pass.
Time in between must be used so carefully,
For only the memories will last.

You will hurt, because he has left you all alone,
You will cry, because he is gone never to return.
With sorrow you must now say a last goodbye,
But Precious's memory will forever live on.

Because of what he meant to so many both near and far,
And the way he touched the hearts of both young and old,
The loneliness will always remain.

He will forever be remembered for all the things he did for so many
with devotion, support, caring, kindness and loyalty,
And always with a warm smile.

Precious, a dear husband, a loving father, a wonderful brother and a great friend,
now asleep, will always be alive in all our hearts.

My deepest condolences

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
