Preston Berry Obituary

Preston Barber Berry, 18, died August 5, 2007 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Copiah County. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Hazlehurst with burial in the Hazlehurst Cemetery.
With a smile on his face, Preston enjoyed life to the fullest. A few of his hobbies were football, hunting and skiing. He never did anything just a little bit. He could not be still; his motor was always running-Preston was wide open. He stopped and talked to most everyone and never met a stranger. If you were in a room of people, you could not help noticing him making everyone laugh. There is more laughter in Heaven now that Preston is there. He was bigger than life. Preston made some of the best friends in the world by being a best friend. Friends and family say Preston will leave a huge hole - nothing will ever be the same. You have never met a person quite like Preston.
Survivors include parents, Larry and Judy Berry of Hazlehurst; brother, Eric Wayne Lea of Hazlehurst; maternal grandfather, Edwin Guynes of Folsom, La.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lionel and Juanita Berry and Carolyn Guynes.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Preston Berry Fund at Copiah Academy.

Judy and Larry, I can't find words to express my feelings but I can say how wonderful a child and young man Preston was. I coached him several years playing ball and he was a joy. He and Landon had good times in their younger years and I have reflected on those many times lately. My heart has been so heavy since finding out about Preston's journey home to the Lord and I have sent many prayers up for your family. Landon said,"Mama, it's not right that someone young and good like Preston should have to die.” I agree, but God has a plan we can't understand. I can't imagine your grief and will all ways remember Preston's smiling face and his endless energy.

Deepest Sympathy,

I am so sorry for the loss of your son. I cannot imagine the pain you must be feeling. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I'm sure you have many memories to carry on his beautiful legacy. Such a young age to have to leave but also what a wonderful plan God must have for him. I'm sure he will be watching over you. Larry, even though I haven't seen you since my mom and dad's anniversary a few years ago, I think of your family often. My brother Larry told me recently what a wonderful football player Preston was. My heartfelt sympathy is with you and your family.

I cannot imagine your loss and was so saddened to hear about it. He was a sweet kid with an extraordinary smile. I am so sorry...words cannot say how much. I will pray for you both to feel God's arms wrapped around you and His empathy for your loss. Let me know if there is anything at all that I can do.

I want you to know that my heart is so saddened in your loss of Preston. We don't understand God's plan for our lives--someday we will. I know what you are experiencing; I lost my 20 year old son in May 2007. He was in a very similar accident, and this is the very worst nightmare a parent always dreads. Key was a KA with Charley before he transfered to Ole Miss in the fall. I am so sorry, and I will always have you in my prayers. It has helped me to talk with parents that have gone through this. Please call any time. 601-540-7742 People can say that they know how you feel, but there is no way unless they have been through this. God bless you and your family.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Preston truly did have a great "motor" and I admired and envied it. He was a great competitor on the field and a great friend to many, giving every ounce of energy to everything and everyone he loved. Nobody could equal his passion for life and laughter.
