Mr. John Randall Palmer, 45, passed away October 2, 2016, in Madison. Randy was a graduate of Amory High School where he was a star athlete. Upon graduation, he attended Itawamba Community College to play baseball where he was named Most Valuable Player as well as receiving numerous other awards. He also attended Delta State University where he was selected as the Most Valuable Player, as well as the Leading Hitter and the player with the most R.B.I.'s. He then played baseball with the Minnesota Twins minor league organization. In 1995, Randy began his coaching career at Oak Hill Academy and coached at Madison-Ridgeland Academy from 2001-2005. He later began a career in pharmaceutical sales but his true love was coaching young people. He was heard many times saying "I'm in the kid business". Coach Palmer had the God-given ability to connect with his players and motivate them to do great things, not only in baseball but in life. Randy loved hunting and watching his children play sports.

Randy is survived by his wife, LaNelle Palmer; daughter, Cara Dale Palmer; son Easton Palmer; father, Steve Palmer; mother, Sharon Palmer; sisters, Kellie Wouldridge and Molly Palmer; nieces, Shayne Hall, Layne Faulkner and Lauren Rooks; great nieces, Karsyn Easter and Cami Fullerton.

Memorials may be made to: East Coast Baseball, 200 Park Creek Dr. Columbus, MS 39705 or M.F.C. Rush ATTN: Tammy Zummallen 222 Quail Hollow Canton, MS 39046.

He was a fine man and an outstanding coach. He cared for his players, and we were fortunate to have had the opportunity to have a son play for him. He will be missed.

So sorry to hear about this tragedy. Randy will be dearly missed. My nephew, Parker Nelson, had Randy as his baseball coach growing up, and he instilled in him so many life lessons along with teaching the game of baseball. Randy was a coach, a hero, and like a 2nd dad to Parker. The skills and lessons that that he taught him will be used by Parker for the rest of his life. Thank you Randy, for giving so much to so many kids. We love you and miss you.
