Rebecca Burnham Obituary

Rebecca (Becky) Blocker Burnham, 52, of Brandon finally achieved victory over the cancer she fought so hard for so many years. As of Friday, January 7th, 2011 she now rests at the home with Christ that she claimed long ago, but leaves behind a loving husband of 28 years and three wonderful children to join her later.

Becky was born in Clarksdale, MS October 13th, 1958, lived in Greenville, MS, and grew up in Clinton, MS where she finished the balance of her elementary through high school studies and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Paralegal Studies. Becky was a pioneer in the Paralegal field serving the firm of Wells Marble & Hurst before beginning the demanding career of Motherhood along with teaching her children at home, at which she excelled beyond comparison. No awards were given on this earth other than the thrill of seeing her three children excel at whatever their interests were and watching their admiration of her loving sacrifice.

She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Sidney McLaurin Burnham, Jr.; son, Sidney McLaurin Burnham, III; son, Joshua Lowry Burnham, and daughter, Maggie Rosalie Burnham, all of Brandon, MS; her mother, Melba Blocker of Clinton, and brothers, Ken Blocker of Bay Springs, MS, and Jim Pope of Germantown, TN. She is also survived by her father-in-law, Sidney McLaurin Burnham, Sr., and mother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving father, James K. Blocker, Sr.

Services will be at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon at 2:30pm, Sunday, January 9, 2011. Visitation will be today from 5 until 8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the New Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are welcome as she has donated much to the cause of cancer research with amazing determination and of course donations to InTouch Ministries, PO Box 7900, Atlanta, Georgia 30357, in her name are appreciated.

"I will rise when He calls my name- no more sorrow, no more pain..." He called and dear Becky followed her Lord Home. She was a precious cousin to me- I treasure many wonderful memories of her and our times together. I am so grateful we reconnected as adults through letters and email. It was a privilege to pray with and for her during her valiant battle with cancer. Her faith and trust were an encouragement and inspiration to me.
I am so very sorry for your loss - she loved her family and did not want to leave you all so early. She was so grateful for your unfailing support, love and tender care.
Praying that our Lord Jesus will hold you all close to His heart and fill you with His comfort, strength and peace, especially as you go through the next days, weeks and months of missing her.
Sending love, hugs and prayers--
Susan

To Becky's family: I am so very sorry for your loss, and you are all in my prayers. She knew me as Kathy Keene. We went to high school and Hinds Jr College together. I loved her. She was very shy, but I could tell she was special, so I called her and we became good friends. At Hinds, I fixed her up on a date with a friend for the spring dance. We went on a double date. I just wanted to share with you what he said when she walked out in her white dress. He said, "WOW. You are beautiful. You remind me of a princess in a 19th century painting." May you all be comforted by the Lord Jesus. She will be missed. We were all blessed to have known Becky.

Sidney and Family: I am so sorry about
Becky and I have remembered her in my prayers but when her time was up I feel sure it was a blessing to be with the Lord. She made a point of asking me about my faith and I have to
tell all, I spend more time Thanking the Lord for all of my blessings than
is possible to explain.

I hope O will be able to attend the
service tomorrow but the weather man is not speaking of good weather.

Be thankful that you all had her with'
you through the years. Christine Hogg
