Robert McDonald Ely

Robert McDonald "Mack" Ely, 66, died Tuesday, May 06, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Ray Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Wright and Pastor Weldon Brinkley officiating. Burial will follow in North Cleveland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Ely was born on May 17, 1941 in Clarksdale, MS to Thomas Shockley Ely and Lucy Scott Ely. He attended Mississippi State University. He farmed his family land until he left to serve his country in the United States Army, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Marksman (Rifle) Medal. He married Martha Trimm on July 3, 1970 in Marks, MS. He was the owner and operator of Simpson Heating and Air Conditioning in Cleveland until his retirement. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Sons of the Confederacy, American Legion, and the VFW. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed geneology.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Trimm Ely of Cleveland; two sons, Mack Ely of Vance, MS and Michael Ely of Sumner, MS; a daughter, Mary Ann Ely Warrington of Franklin, TN; two brothers, Samuel Ely and Thomas Ely, both of Clarksdale; his sister, Rachel Ely Winter of Clarksdale; and grandchildren, Ashley Ely, Keri Warrington, Kelsey Warrington, Ely Warrington, and Taylor Porter.
Pallbearers will be Tim Foley, Hal Jennings, Sammie Tedford, Joe Moore, John Johnson, and Ely Weeks.
