Robert White Obituary

Robert Lewis "Rusty" White

Bluffton, SC. - Robert Lewis "Rusty" White, age 72, formerly of Atlanta, GA died Monday, June 18, 2018 at his home in Bluffton, SC.

Mr. White was born on July 8, 1945 in Jackson, MS, the son of the late Grace and Lewis White. He was raised in Newton, MS and was of the Baptist faith. Rusty was a graduate of the University of Mississippi where he double majored in physics and art. While at Ole Miss he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Following his formal education he served honorably in the United States military during the Vietnam War.

He was the founder and publisher of the Robb Report magazine, as well as several other publications until his retirement in 2002. A man of many talents, Rusty began Rob Partners, an online auction company for high end antiques & collectibles. Outside of work, he enjoyed collecting Civil War weaponry, of which he was considered an expert. He was the owner of the Rose Hill Mansion, an antebellum plantation house in Bluffton, which he restored to its current beauty after years of abandonment following a fire in the 1980's.

Mr. White is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Robin Ann Sumners White; sister, Donna White Angel of Woodstock, GA; nephew, Michael Angel (Sharon); niece, Heather Angel Dittus; great nephews, Henry and Martin Dittus; father and mother in law, Robert and Ann Sumners; and brother in law, Mark Sumners ( Nancy ).

Robin, we've just returned from a lengthly trip and were shocked to learn of Rusty's passing. We fondly recall our first meeting and his elaborate story about his "yard dog" alligator and the grounds keeper--he had all of us laughing. He will surely be missed. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Rusty's passing. We were friends and colleagues during the early days of the Robb Report magazine. Although we had not kept in close touch over the years, he was in my thoughts often...he was the kind of person who was hard to forget, and I am sure that he will be missed by everyone who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with Robin as she prepares for a life without her best friend and soul mate.

I am saddened to hear of Rusty's passing. I met him when we moved to Miss. and his Dad was building our home in Newton. Rest in peace, Rusty, and God bless your family. I will always remember your sweet smile and very cool white convertible. Sending a prayer for your wife, children and sister.
