Rowena Hawkins Obituary

Rowena Beasley Hawkins, 83, died September 12, 2007 while under hospice care in her home in Jackson. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church with burial following in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. today at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street and 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
She was born August 27, 1924 in the parsonage of Centerpoint United Methodist Church, Centerpoint, Mississippi. She was one of three children born to Rev. And Mrs. Andrew Joseph Beasley. She remained loyal to her United Methodist heritage and was very active in church work in her earlier years.
Mrs. Hawkins graduated from Benton High School and then attended and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. While in college, she met Lloyd Hawkins Sr. who was stationed at Camp Shelby before he was sent overseas to serve in World War II. After the war, they were married and made their permanent residence in Jackson. They worked together during their entire marriage as co-owners of Hawkins Photography. She was always proud of this business that specialized in portrait and wedding photography.
Rowena is survived by her husband, Lloyd Hawkins Sr.; three children, Lloyd Hawkins Jr., Janice Hawkins, and Julie Hawkins Meeks; two grandchildren, Malaina and Mallory Martello; and one son-in-law, Louis Meeks.
