Keith and Carol I just found out about Scott. You have my deepest sympathy and I extend my condolences to you for your loss. This touches me deeply and I am sure you know why. Sometimes life is so hard to handle and understand, but I will never forget the card I received from John's first football at JA. When I lost John - that is still like yesterday to me - I received a card from his coath that retired from JA and it said "Linus I know you have suffered a tremondous loss but you need to know that John has won the ultimate victory and is in a better place." I will never forget that and think about it often knowing I will see John again. That and knowing Jesus is what keeps me going. John was also my best and closest friend. So I now want to extend the same message to both of you. Scott has won the ultimate victory and you both know where he is and you both know that you will see him again. I guess Scott and John visit with Coach Shaw frequently. May God bless all of you as I know He has before and will continue. With my brotherly and sisterly love to you and in the precious name of Jesus, Linus Shackelford

What a precious soul. I remember Scott in the youth group at FBC Jackson where I was the accompanist. He was one of those sports boys who came to choir to set an example, but claimed he couldn't sing. If all that was in his big heart were to burst forth, I'm sure that he could, and now he is. How remarkable that one life can touch so many. For it is God who works in you both to will and to act according to His good purpose. Phillipians 2:13 It is obvious from these multiple entries, and the impact that Scott had on so many lives, that God truly worked through him. Our children tell us he was referred to as "Sunshine." God bless your family during this difficult time.

I had the honor of knowing Scott while growing up. He was always a great friend and was always so positive. He showed his love of life through his warm heart and kindness. I moved away after high school and hadn't seen him in many years. Yet, a year ago while visiting family, I had the pleasure of running into Scott in Jackson. He was the same Scott I knew many years before; I really enjoyed our conversations, and the excitement he showed of our reconnection was contagious. I thank God for that time. To the Branning family, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. May you find comfort in your heart knowing Scott is in a wonderful place.

Dear Keith, Carol, and family,

I remember the week-end we were at school clearing the building before flood waters could come in, and Scott was not well. The next day you took him to the doctor and learned of his illness. What an inspiration he and all of you were during those years of his treatment. How wonderful that he lived his life with such joy. Thank you for letting all of us share in his life. God's peace and compassion to you during this time. Love to you all.

Mr and Mrs Branning
I am so sorry for your loss. It has been many years since Scott and Jason were crawling over the seat of the bus on the way to our basketball games. It appears Scott turned out to be an impressive young man. That is no surprise. It sounds as if he followed in his father's footsteps in that regard. Coach Keith Branning touched the lives of many of us and was always a positive influence. He was one of the most important influences in my youth as I am sure Scott has been in many young men and women. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Watching the Joe Paterno public memorial reminds me a lot of you Coach Branning. The joy and happiness you brought to JA every day on and off the court. Whether I passed you on campus or you were coaching me, you made me laugh by calling me Screbert. You and A Ray had the way of talking that no matter how bad the day was going it brought a smile to my face. I know you'll be watching over all of us. You were a mentor, a coach, and a great friend.
Tell Joe hey for me up there in heaven and play a few pick up games and show them how to make it rain. You'll always be my boy CB.

Mr and Mrs Branning, I don't have the words to show how sad I am to hear about your loss. I am lucky to say I knew Scott and although I left Jackson soon after we graduated, the few times I was able to come back to JA he saw me and instantly recognized me. We talk for a time and all Scott want to know is how I was. From what I have seen and read he was held in highest regard and will always be shineing light against the dark.

January 26, 2012

My prayers are with you all. Scott held a special place in my heart from the times years back I had contact with him through children's Sunday School. He will be missed.
