Sue Baird Obituary

Sue N. Baird

Jackson

Sue N. Baird passed away July 15th. She was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Bernice G. and Narcissus Riser Newton. She attended the public schools in Pine Bluff and was active in band and journalism. Her family moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee when her father took a position with the Manhattan Project. She completed high school in Oak Ridge and attended the University of Tennessee. She was a member of the Zeta chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha.

Sue met her future husband Harry in a math class at University of Tennessee. They were married in 1951. They made homes in Oak Ridge, Nashville, Tupelo, Pascagoula, and Jackson, Mississippi. Her children, Lynne and Craig, were born in Tupelo.

When her children were young, Sue was an active volunteer as Gray Lady, various PTAs, and the Girl Scouts. Her later community service interests included neighborhood associations, donating blood, and as a poll worker during elections. Sue had a passion for bridge, playing in multiple bridge clubs a month for over sixty years. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed trips to mountain areas, with Banff Canada being a favorite. She was a member of Saint Matthew's United Methodist Church, was a member of their Fellowship Class, and was active with the Saint Matthew's Seasoned Saints.

Mrs. Baird is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harry; daughter Lynne (Leah) and son Craig (Brittney); nephews Joe and Matt, and niece Mary. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and a niece.

Visitation will be at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, Madison, Mississippi on Tuesday, July 19 from 3 to 5 p.m. Online condolences may be given at www.natcheztracefuneralhome.com.
