Father Boucree was my friend, a mentor, and a man of much integrity. Father came to Basile, La as our Priest in the 1960s. Our friendship started during a critical time in our nation's history - the Civil Rights Movement. His spiritual leadership and personal courage were instrumental to our efforts. He was always mindful of the cares and concerns of all the people and faiths in our community. My family and I will cherish our many fond memories.

Father Boucree spoke many times at St. Peter Claver of Asbury Park, NJ. I would always attend because he was a New Orleans native and I knew that God had sent His Messenger to Deliver the Word!
To Glendora, my Xavier classmate, you
and your family had a remarkable, saintly brother. He was truly one of a kind and will be missed, by all whose lives he touched. My prayers are with you and the family at this sorrowful time.

Father Boucree's best Sermon was how he lived his life. He encouraged me to become an alter boy and was the presiding priest at my wedding. He was a leader worth following, a man worth imitating, and a friend worth respecting.

My heart is saddened and the tears are flowing each time I think of not being able to speak with you and to hear your voice. I miss you Father Boucree and will always remember your sweet smile and your kind heart. To the Boucree family I want to thank you for sharing him with so many. I was a little girl in Basile, La when Father Boucree was my Spiritual Leader. Our community was so involved because of his leadership. Father was always there for our family and we will miss him. May you rest in peace Father. The Angels must be so joyous to hear you singing God's Praises.

Dearest Boucree Family, Please know that words of endearment come easy as I was blessed to know Father, from a child in Basile La. Father, was such a good looking Priest that was given the gift of speech, his words mesmerized and captivated his audience when he spoke, during Church or at a Revival not that I always remembered the message or the Gospel that he spoke of but I never forgot his person, he was so kind and humbled he made you so comfortable when speaking with him. I was blessed again when the hurricane caused damage to his residence in Bay St. Louis Mississippi, God sent Father to stay at St. Mary's Catholic church in Houston where I attend, I was walking into church and got a glimpse of Father walking in and in his usual manner he was speaking to all he saw approaching, when I heard his voice though it had been years since my childhood in Basile, I could not believe my ears or eyes but our Deacon Malveaux confirmed that that was indeed Father Thaddeus Boucree right before me, I was so anxious for Mass to end I practically ran to him and re-introduced myself he of course remembered the church and parish we shared him with a church in Elton, it was an awesome reunion I embraced him and what can I say so many good memories of that little church and our life back home in Basile was like yesterday when we talked for what seemed like an hour. As God would have it I was given the chance to really spend time with Father because that same hurricane had also caused his sister Sister Annunicatia (from NY) to be relocated to Houston, so after church on Sunday's I had the pleasure of taking Father to visit Sister each Sunday that I could. Those visits with Father and Sister I was blessed to meet several of the Boucree family, such good and wonderful people, it just feels like I have known them for as long as I have known Father. Once the Seminary was repaired, Marilyn and myself had the privilage to driving Father back to Mississippi, the drive was wonderful, we stopped in Elton so that Father could visit some friends they were wonderful cooks we had some lunch and continued our trip toward New Orleans where we spent the night with Nell a past parishioner of Father's there in New Orleans then the next day we drove on to Bay St. Louis though it was an exciting time for Father to get back home it was sad for me I missed our visits on Sunday, but I had the opprotunity to call him each time I needed help with my Bible Study questions, prayers for family and friends, Father was so patient and kind always positive never complained about anything He was always reminding me that we should be grateful with much as with less. I will miss Father and our phone visits but I do look foward to seeing that bright beaming smile and hearing that voice when one day we will meet up in that place that our Father in Heaven has prepared for us all that love and beleive in Him. I close with this Father you keep praying for me and I will keep praying for you as always, I love you More, Eranda Candy Fontenot

Fifty-four years ago my sister suffered third degree burns on ninety percent of her body and was hospitalized four hundred fifty-six days. Father Boucree visited and prayed with our family at least five evenings a week and every mass he celebrated he included a special prayer for her recovery. She died on July 2, 2009 and when she was alive she spoke very often about him and always expressed how thankful she was for his prayers not only for her but for her entire family. Rest in Peace Father Boucree!

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

As young children at St. Philip the Apostle Church, we knew it was a special Sunday whenever we were graced with the presence of Fr. Thaddeus Boucree. The visits were announced far in advance so the word would be out about his coming. His humor, oratorical skills, and clear messages kept us in church enthralled long pass the usual 60 - 75 minutes. When Fr. Boucree came you knew three things: 1) Mass was going to last longer than usual. 2) You would know you had been in touch with the spirit of the Lord. 3) There would be a lesson to remember. The Fr. Boucree experience is one to treasure. Later, through his nephew Raymond Diamond, I came to know him as Uncle Father. The stories that his family told about him just made Fr. Boucree more of an iconic figure for me. He will be missed, but his legacy lives on. May he rest in peace with his God. My sympathies go out to the Boucree and Diamond families.

Your loss is shared by the Johnson Family - Walter, Roslyn, Sharon, Dianne, Kenneth, Wanda, Claudia, Eric, Gail, Warren, Gerard, and Michael.

Father Boucree will be remembered by Maryites as the kindest, gentlest, most sincere priest and man. He was never too busy after mass at St. Mary’s Academy to visit with the girls and offer blessings, prayers, and encouragement. His retreats and revivals were much anticipated each year, and he touched many hearts with his uplifting sermons. I am honored that, although retired, he came to the Chapel of the Pines to baptize my granddaughter six years ago. He was one in a million, and loved by all.
