To all the family of Thelma Macgowan,
My family were across the street neighbors to Thelma and Mrs. Eloise Thompson for forty years. From 1944 to 1964 we knew Kip, Cliff, and Charles. Later my wife and I moved back for 27 more years, from 1969 to 1996. Thelma was a kind and energetic person. She loved the beauties of nature, and from what she told me of her Central High School classmates, she was a kind and compassionate person. I remember Kip for his friendliness and for his collection of fishing lures. As a child I always looked forward to Hallowe'en and Mrs. Thompson's treats. You would never even think of tricking such a nice person.
Our deepest condolences to all of you.

To all the Macgowan Family,
My family were across the street neighbors to Thelma, her mother Eloise Thompson, and later to Kip, Cliff and Charles for forty years from 1944 to 1964. My wife and I moved back for 27 years more, from 1969 to 1996. I remember Thelma and Mrs. Thompson as kindly ladies and as an adult appreciated the wit and energy of Thelma. She appreciated the beauties of nature, and from the things she told me of her Central High schoolmates she was a compassionate lady who was kind to less fortunate people. I think I best remember Kip for his collection of fishing lures, and his friendliness. When I was a child, I looked forward to their Hallowe'en treats, and we would never think of tricking such nice people. We send our deepest sympathies to all of you.
Sincerely,
Cecil Copeland, Mary Margaret Copeland, and Ted Copeland

The Swimmers!

We are so sorry to learn of Thelma's passing, Clifford. We have cherished memories of visiting Eleanor in Jackson and swimming every afternoon with Thelma, Lucy Batte, Frisco and Duprey. Haley was around 8 yrs old when we all first met and those beautiful ladies would all play Submarine in the pool with her, paddling around with noodles and trying not to get Frisco's hair wet!
We remember having dinner at the Mayflower and having you show up on Thelma's behalf as she wanted to take care of our dinner. We also thoroughly enjoyed your beautiful singing one afternoon -what a treat!
We loved her spark and energy - and also how she would study the clouds for great images. I am attaching a picture I have from one of our swims, although you will notice a piece missing which was I'm sure, Eleanor tearing herself out of the picture!
Thelma was wonderful, sweet, kind and a cherished friend. We are blessed to have spent such fun times with her over the years.

Mrs. Macgowan was a wonderful and sweet lady. She was in church at the Waterford as often as she could be while living at the Waterford, and became a special friend. Praying for the family. Rev. Bobby Williamson
