W. Douglas Godfrey

Jackson - Born in Adamsville AL Jan 29 1934, died in Jackson MS Oct 19 2018 as a result of injuries sustained from a fall.

He is preceded in death by his parents Mr. & Mrs. W. E. Godfrey and his sister Mrs. Carolyn Machen.

He received his medical degree from the University of Alabama in 1959 and his plastic surgery training from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1967. He served as a captain in the United States Army for two years, had a medical practice in Jackson for many years, was active in many professional associations, and was a published author in medical journals. He was an active member of Briarwood UMC and enjoyed teaching Sunday school for many years. He enjoyed a very active lifestyle and his interests lay in many areas. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, reading, music, and using his medical talents to help people long after he officially retired from medicine.

He is survived by his loving wife Jeanette of 59 years, his four children Wendell (Eady), Allen ( Susan), Sondra (Todd) and Michael (Renee), ten grandchildren, brothers Gerald (Jackie) and Roland, brother-in-law John Machen and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation on Nov 2 at Briarwood United Methodist Church, 320 Briarwood Drive, Jackson MS from 3 to 5 pm. The memorial service will be on Nov 3 at 11 am at Briarwood UMC, 320 Briarwood Drive, Jackson, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Briarwood UMC, Salvation Army, or any charity of your choice.
