Dr. William Alfred Middleton, Sr., 90, of Winona, Mississippi, died May 31, 2015, at Monfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko, Mississippi.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at First Baptist Church in Winona with Reverends Tim Mims, Johnny Walker and Jason Middleton officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Winona, with military honors at graveside. A visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday, beginning at 12:30 p.m., at First Baptist Church.

Dr. Middleton was born on December 8, 1924, in the Alva Community of Webster County, Mississippi. He served in the United States Army during World War II in New Guinea and the Philippines. Following his service to his country, he attended Mississippi College in Clinton and then Tulane School of Medicine in New Orleans, where he completed his medical degree. Dr. Middleton married Sarah Nell Grice of Crystal Springs in 1954 and returned to Winona, Mississippi, to begin his 50+ year medical career as a general practitioner and surgeon. He was an active member of the American Medical Association and the Mississippi Medical Association throughout his career. Dr. Middleton was a member of First Baptist Church in Winona, where he served as a lifetime deacon. He was very involved in the community, including the Montgomery County Arts Council.

Dr. Middleton was preceded in death by his son, William Alfred Middleton, Jr.; parents, Alfred Byron and Hildred Carver Middleton; brother, Virgil Carver Middleton; sister, Edna Earl Middleton Pittman; and nephew, James Roy Pittman.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Nell Grice Middleton; daughter, Melanie Ann Middleton of Jackson; brothers Dan Middleton (Jamie) of Winona and Harold Middleton (Cecelia) of Benton; sister-in-law Marianne Middleton of West Point; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will Dr. Middleton's nephews, Mike Brown, Myron Foster, Denny Hoover, Charlie Lockett, Byron Middleton, Carl Middleton, Curtis Middleton, Hal Middleton, Jimmy Middleton, and David Shipp.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of First Baptist Church and members of the Senior Men's Sunday Class.

Memorials may be made to Mississippi College, First Baptist Church of Winona, Gideons International, or any charity of the donor's choice.

Deepest condolences to the middleton family,,,,I was born and raised in Winona have was delevered as was my brother Scott by Dr. Middleton,,,,,My parents both deseased were patients and friends of him...Mr. and Mrs Dexter Gilliland.....I have known this man my entire life and to say he was a huge asset to Winona is not enough,,,,,He was a fine man and a great doctor!!!
