Wilma Block Obituary

Wilma H. Block, age 103, passed away in Memphis on Sunday, July 4, 2010.
She was born in Meridian, MS on August 30, 1906 to General George and Mary Hogaboom. She was raised in Vicksburg, MS and attended All Saints Academy.
She was one of six siblings and is survived by her sister, Mary Stanley of Wilmington, N.C.
Her brothers, Henry H. Hogaboom, General Robert H. Hogaboom, USMC, Reese Hogaboom, and Lt. William (Billy) Hogaboom, USMC, preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Kennett Bolton (KB) Block.
She spent most of her married life in Honduras, Panama and Costa Rica raising their four daughters where KB was a district manager for the United Fruit Company. After his retirement in 1962 they moved to Jackson, MS to be close to their family. She leaves behind her four loving daughters, Sue Parkes (Bob) of Jackson, MS, Helen Jabbour (JT) of Memphis, TN, Missy Bornhofen (Jack) of Little Rock, AR, and Wilma (Tikey) Ogarrio of Guatemala City. She leaves behind 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. All called her Mita.
Services will be handled by Canale Funeral Directors of Memphis, TN. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg, MS.
Special gratitude goes to her caretakers, Audrey Coburn and Mary Bean of Memphis. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Msgr. Glynn Seminarian Educational Trust, c/o Catholic Foundation, PO Box 2248, Jackson, MS 39225.
