Emil was one of a kind. As was your mother. Emil always kept me in check while working at the drugstore. If he saw it was slow and I was just standing there he would hand me a dust rag. Always needs dusting he would say. I always looked to your dad and mom like my aunt and uncle. We were very blessed they both were in our lives. He will be missed

Emil was the best. As was your Mom! Loved them both as family. The glue that held us together at Thompson’s. My Grandfather George, who passed in 1953, hired Emil when he was a teenager and he was with us for over 60 years! He ran the front of the house, the back of the house and was a Pharmacy Technician who filled prescriptions when needed. He literally did it all Thompson’s Rexall Drugs! I will miss him dearly as my boss when I was a stock boy and fellow lifelong STL Cardinal baseball fan..

First boss and by far best boss I ever had. Learned soo much from him starting when I was 5 yrs old stuffing little bags with samples and keychains for SV Annual Sidewalk Sale ☺ (after which he’d promptly pay me with Tootsie Rolls! The big ones ). My dream job.
As we Thompson kids agree, acted more like our coach rather than our boss. From, as he’d say, “The customer is always right. If you’re not sure how to make that be true, come ask me and we’ll figure it out.” To “There’s always work to be done. Quiet at the moment? Grab a duster and start on the shelves.” Never criticism, only ideas for next time.
Was always glad years ago that I included a special note in his Christmas card that let him know we all knew, that everyone knew that he WAS the Thompson Drug Co.
Thank you, Emil A. Bertalot.

To Mary and Emil,
My deepest sympathy for the loss of your father. I remember him standing behind the counter at the drug store, always with a smile on his face. Both of your parents were such kind, caring people. I remember them fondly. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
