Janie Godbee McGregor Obituary

Janie Anne Godbee McGregor passed away on July 15, 2025, in Clarksville, Tennessee. Janie was born in Vidalia, Georgia, on June 22, 1959, to the late Barron W. Godbee, Jr., and the late Lois Wade Godbee. Janie is survived by her loving husband, Daniel B. McGregor; sister, Erica Harden (John); brothers, Fred Godbee (Mandy), Ronald Jackson (Linda), Lucky Jackson (Connie); first cousins Julia Windham (Steve), Mary Louise McDade; and stepmother, Caroll Godbee. Janie earned a bachelor's degree in music education at Shorter College. She and her college roommates-Cecilia, DeAwna, and Roslyn-maintained a close friendship over the years. They rarely missed their yearly gërls'(sic) trip together. After graduation, she taught Music, English, and Literature at Vidalia High School. One of her proudest accomplishments was singing in the Atlanta Symphony Chorus under Robert Shaw in the mid - 1980's. Janie and her future husband met in Vidalia in 1997. They were married the next year, and she made her home with Danny in Clarksville. They later joined the First Presbyterian Church, where Janie sang in the choir. Ned Crouch, then director of the Customs House Museum in Clarksville, discovered that Janie was "looking for something to do", and he offered her a position as retail store manager at the museum. She thrived at the museum for eight years and often described it as the best and most fun job of her life. Janie's sense of humor, wit, and love for life endeared her to everyone who knew her. She was a talented gardener, an inveterate dog lover, and a beautiful person. She will be sorely missed by all of her family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale of Clarksville and Gentiva Hospice for their extraordinary, compassionate care of Janie during her declining months and departure from this life. Visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Clarksville on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a celebration of Janie's life at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or the Juvenile Diabetes Association. Arrangements are entrusted to Neal Tarpley Parchman Funeral Home, 1510 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37040; (931) 645-6488. Online condolences may be made at www.nealtarpleyparchman.com.
