Better known as Big John, he was a simple man. He found joy in the little things. He loved his family. His children, Little John and Debbie were his pride and joy. He was known as a man who could do and fix anything, a trait he passed down to many others. He loved to hunt and fish but truly had a passion for his guns and the art of shooting them. He would help and do anything for anybody.
In addition to his parents, Charlie and Bertie Mathis Gibson, he was preceded in death by his two children, Jerry Lewis and Wanda Faye.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bettie Gibson; son, John Gibson (Dawn), of Burns, TN; daughter, Debbie Thomas (Dudley), of Cunningham, TN; grandchildren, Clint Gibson (Chyna), Samantha Cockerille (Dylan), Dudley Thomas, Jr., Ty Weaver (Amber), and Toby Weaver (Jamie); great-grandchildren, Brilyn Gibson, Ashlynn and Journey Harvey, Hadley, Chloe, and Noah Cockerille, John and Avery Weaver.
Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews, Jamees Neblett "Bobo", Timmy Neblett, Bobby Gibson, Jr., Steve Neblett, Charles Neblett, and Jeff Neblett. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Clint Gibson, Dudley Thomas, Jr., Ty Weaver, and Toby Weaver.
