John Poynter Obituary

To My Family Don't Cry for me, I am much happier now. My Lord Jesus called and he could not wait; My earthly body has passed away. But my spirit will from you never stray; My life with you was filled with joy and pain. But now, I am in Heaven's employ. My burdens are light, my heart flows with love. I'm riding high on the wings of a dove. I'm much happier now!! John C. Poynter III, age 67, entered into eternal rest at his home where God was ready to carry him home on Monday, March 24, 2025. He was well known as "Little John" around town. John was born in Franklin, TN to the late Military Retiree, John A. Poynter II and Fannie M. (Lawrence) Poynter. He was a Class of 1975 Graduate of Clarksville High School in Clarksville, TN. John never let his dwarfism stop him from achieving his goals and employment. His past employment history was with United Industrial Linen, Sysco Food Distributor, and Stroh's Distributer. He was baptized at the US Army Chapel in Munich, Germany in 1964 and later re-baptized at the Edgefield Baptist Church in 1973. With cherish memories of growing up; John Poynter's siblings include his late sister, Wanda Hardeman; surviving brother; Zema Hardeman, Jr.; surviving sisters, Judith Poynter and Ida Poynter-Metcalf, all born in Franklin, TN. He is survived by his daughter; Danequa Danielle Holmes; three granddaughters; three great-grandsons; nieces: Takeshia Long, Latashia Long, Eboney Patterson, and Latoya Patterson-Smith; nephews: Carlos Long, Demarcus Long, and Curtis Patterson, Jr; and a host of great-nephews, great-nieces, other relatives, and friends. After Glow I like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun. Remember me as one that passed this way my family and friends. And reflect upon happy memories I leave. Therefore, life for me on earth is done! Please visit John's tribute wall and share a memory with the family.

To Ida and the family. Little John
would walk sometimes up and down Paradise Hill Road and whenever I
offered him a ride, he would take it
and we would laugh until he got
to South Central Village. May God
give you strength during this time.
He had a memorable laugh! Rest in
Peace Little John!
