Susan Vaughan Obituary

Susan Vaughan, 73, of Clarksville, TN, returned to nature on September 10, 2025 with her daughters holding her hands. Preceded in death by her father Marvin Mizzles and by her husband of 49 years Kenny Vaughan, she is survived by her mother Lucy (Bennett) Mizzles; daughters Kerry Vaughan and Amber Powell; brothers Mike Mizzles and Mark Mizzles; sister Melissa Mizzles Wallis; grandchildren Avan and Abery; lifelong best friend Patti DeBlois and husband John DeBlois; and many nieces and nephews. Born in Fort Bragg, NC on lucky St. Patrick's Day 1952, Susan spent a lifetime spreading that luck and love to all living things – plant, animal and human alike. As a child she danced the hula in Hawaii, saw the sights of Japan and Germany, rode horses in Texas, and drove boats in Tennessee. She spoke the international language of animals, befriending everything from cats, dogs, horses, and rabbits to parrots and praying mantises in every place she lived. When she returned to Clarksville to marry Kenny in 1971, she put down roots – literally. Gifted with the greenest thumbs, her talents blossomed into a decades-long career landscaping and caretaking many businesses and homes around town, including Neal- Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home. If you saw a tiny lady riding a giant lawnmower, that was her. If you saw a tiny lady driving a lime green Volkswagen Van, that was her too. Susan could make anything. A chair, a wreath, a delicious meal, a whip-smart joke, a whole garage, sun tea, 50 years of photographs, a teddy bear out of vines, lemonade out of lemons, a Jagermeister fan out of you, and two daughters who love her more than anything. A casual service will be held Friday, September 19, 2025 1-3 PM at Neal-Tarpley- Parchman Funeral Home. Wear green, if you like, to celebrate how lucky she made all who knew and loved her.
