Virginia Bakos Obituary
Virginia Nell Bakos, 82, left this world and went to be with Jesus October 2, 2025. Virginia entered life on December 27, 1942, born to Douglas Bumpus and Alma Stone Bumpus. A native of Clarksville, Virginia grew up on North 1st Street and attended Clarksville High school, graduating in 1961. Virginia met Janos Bakos, a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division, and the two fell in love and were married August 22, 1961. Being a military wife, Virginia traveled extensively and was able to experience the different cultures of places like the Netherlands and Panama, as well as living many different places in the United States such as Ft. Bragg, NC; but Clarksville was always home. After retiring from the military, Virginia and her family settled in Clarksville where she worked at Grandpa's and helped care for her grandchildren.
Virginia had a love for sewing and crocheting, and made many lovely clothes and other items for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed working in her yard, keeping it neat and tidy and creating beautiful spaces to be enjoyed by the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Puzzles, especially those by Thomas Kinkade, were a relaxation and many of her finished creations can be seen framed in her home. She was an exceptional homemaker, always providing a warm, inviting place for family to stop by. Her fridge was kept stocked, and the great-grandkids knew that Grandmother would always say yes to a request for a Sunny D! She was a wonderful cook and always fed you, whether it was meal time or not. She loved when her children and grandchildren came over during their lunch breaks and always had a warm meal ready for them. She made amazing brussel sprouts you actually wanted to eat, great omelets, the best beef paprika, and of course the famous Thanksgiving cheese ball, to name a few.
Virginia was strong. No matter what life threw her way, she faced it head on with strength, determination, and maybe even a bit of stubbornness. She was generous, almost to a fault. Giving was her love language. She had a knack for listening when people complimented something in her home, and more often than not, the next time she saw you, with a twinkle in her eye, she would surprise you with that very item. If she saw a need, she tried to meet it. Her family have been blessed beyond measure by her generosity.
Virginia loved her family. She was never too busy for a visit or just to chat on the phone. She was a great listener, even taking time to listen to the smallest members of the family, and had good advice to give. She was an exemplary wife to her husband, Janos, supporting him at all times through all seasons of life, loving him well, and caring for him. He was blessed to be married to her for 64 wonderful years. She touched the lives of all who knew her and every single member of her family will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers Lawrence Bumpus and Billy Bumpus, and her infant sister Barbara Jean Bumpus. She is survived by her husband Janos, her three children Diana (Johnny) Murray of Adams, TN, Tim (Ellen) Bakos of Indian Mound, TN, Janice (David) Thompson of Clarksville, TN; her four grandchildren Stephen (Kristi) Thompson, Abbey (Will) Myers, Morgan Bakos, Alyssa Bakos; and her ten great-grandchildren Brody Pallett; Huntlee and Makena Bakos; Liam, Levi, and Amelia Myers; and Annalee, Emmalynn, Landon, and Waller Thompson.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held Monday, October 6 at 12 pm, with visitation starting at 10 am until the hour of service. Reverend Derek Smith will officiate. Interment to follow. Johnny Murray, David Thompson, Stephen Thompson, Will Myers, and Liam Myers will serve as pallbearers.
