Mae Lee Cheek Obituary

Mae Lee Duvall Mauldin Cheek, of Hayesville, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025. She was born in Union County, Ga. to the late William Lewis Duvall and Mary Corene King Duvall. She was raised in Marietta, Ga. and moved to Acworth with her first husband, Pete Mauldin. Mae Lee and Pete owned and operated Pete's Furniture for many years. They moved to Steinhatchee, Fla. where they sold real estate. She then returned to Hayesville where they operated Mauldin Communications until 1999. Following the passing of her first husband Pete, she met and later married Bruce Cheek who spent the next 33 years with her. She was an active member of Oak View Baptist Church. Mae Lee loved working in her yard and keeping up her flowers with Bruce. She also had a passion for music and bird watching. She was a kind and caring woman and loved the mountains and mountain culture.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Pete Mauldin, and her second husband, Bruce Cheek.
Surviving are three siblings, Ron Duvall and wife, June, of Jasper, Ga., Marcie Turner, of Dallas, Ga., and Dan Duvall, of Hayesville; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews; a son, Steve Mauldin, of Cartersville, Ga. and his two daughters, Misty Galloway and Kristy McAllister and eight grand-children.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 28 at Oak View Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Cothren officiating.
Interment was in Oak View Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday, March 28 prior to the service.
