Joan Riser

(nee Algeo) passed away during the night in her home on January 19, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, George. She was born in Athens, Ohio in 1927 to John and Ann Algeo. She is survived by her three loving children, Sarah Nachamkin, J. Robert Riser, and Ted (Becki) Riser; grandchildren, Jeremy Comfort, John (Angela) Comfort, Ben (Maureen Cloonan) Nachamkin, Peter Comfort, Michael (Elizabeth) Riser, and Melissa Riser; great-grandchildren, Reid, Drake, Jonah and Sage Comfort, and Grayson Riser; great-great granddaughter, Valentine; and many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, Judy Nowak and Adrienne Riser. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Georgia and son-in-law, Philip Comfort; sister, Sarah Algeo Smith; brother, John "Jack" Algeo; brother-in-law Robert Riser; nephews, Grant Pedigo and Michael Algeo.
Joan graduated from John Adams High School (her parents lived in Cleveland during WWII). Then she graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Foreign Languages and later worked as a substitute teacher for many years in South Euclid/Lyndhurst Schools, where her husband was a teacher and coach in football and track.
