Philip Giunta Obituary

It is with deep love and sadness that we share the passing of Philip Joseph Giunta, who left us peacefully on December 2, 2025, at the age of 82. Philip was a devoted husband to Delphine, his partner for 60 years, and a proud father to his three sons: Joseph, Michael, and Philip. He was also the beloved grandfather of three grandsons-Grant, Jacob, and Jaden-who were truly the light of his life. Dear brother of Marietta G. Gullia, Diann G. Scaravilli (Victor J., deceased) and Nina Ann Lewis-Williams (Thomas); uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Philip was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and he shared his hometown pride everywhere he went. He was a lifelong fan of Cleveland sports, celebrating every win and enduring every heartbreak with loyalty that never wavered. His roots shaped who he was-warm, welcoming, and full of heart.
He lived life with passion. Music was a big part of that-he loved everything from country and swing to the classics like Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and Elvis Presley. Music wasn't just something he listened to; it was something he lived. He loved to dance-ballroom with his mother when he was young, and later swing and disco with his wife. If there was music playing, you could bet he'd be moving with a smile on his face.
Golf was another love of his, and he spent countless days on the course enjoying the game and the friendships that came with it. He embraced his Italian heritage, especially through food, and he loved nothing more than family gatherings and social occasions. Philip never met a stranger-his charm, humor, and generosity made him a friend to everyone. He was the life of the party, the guy who made everyone feel welcome.
Philip's career was as colorful as his personality. He owned and operated two Giunta's Stop "n" Shop supermarkets, serving his community with pride. Later, he tried his hand at direct mail advertising on Florida's west coast-always ready for a new challenge. One of his favorite roles was managing the Gleneagles Golf Course in Twinsburg, Ohio, where he combined his love of golf with his gift for hospitality. He wrapped up his career at Mullinax Ford, selling cars with humor and heart-often saying a good joke was the best sales tool.
Philip's legacy is one of love, laughter, and togetherness. He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his zest for life, and his ability to turn ordinary moments into cherished memories. His spirit will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in memory of Phil to the Cleveland Clinic / Philanthropy, P.O. Box 931517, Cleveland, OH 44193-1655.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Hillcrest Hospital for their compassionate care and support in Phil's final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Gleneagles Golf Club on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment private, Knollwood Cemetery. Please sign the funeral home Tribute Wall at: www.murphyfamilyfuneralhome.com

I worked for Phil for 7 years at both of his Stop-n-Shops. I used to check in everything that got delivered to the store among almost everything else except cutting meat. He used to pay me to drive Nina´s car down to Florida every winter. My condolences to Delphine (I doubt she´d remember me) and the rest of the family.

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to the Giunta family . I worked for Phil and the family for seven years during my high school and college days . It was an invaluable experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. Phil was always smiling and was very patient and supportive of us guys who would like to joke around . When Marietta and Nina Ann would come in the store , Phil would soon appear knowing that we would be looking for the girls and he would escort us back to our jobs. He was always happy and always smiling and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. When I was 16 , he sold me his 1957 Red Chevy convertible for 100 dollars . It was pretty rusted out, leaked oil non stop , but I loved that car. Perhaps that was the start of his interest in selling cars. Phil was truly one of the good guys and I am honored to have been part of his life .
May he rest in peace.
