JOHN SANTANGELO Obituary

JOHN SANTANGELO Lancaster - John E. "Jack" Santangelo, 91, passed peacefully at Leominster Hospital on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. He is survived by his children, James P. Santangelo, John P. Santangelo and wife Ellen, Julie Coppenrath, Linda McGeehan and husband Robert, and Paul P. Santangelo; and two siblings, Ronald P. Santangelo, and Lois Courville and husband Richard. He leaves eight grandchildren: David and Chelsea Coppenrath, Robert and Seth McGeehan, James, Keith, Michael, and Johnathon Santangelo; two great-grandchildren Connor McGeehan and Rylie Santangelo; his daughter-in-law Tami Santangelo, generations of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his daughter Laurie Santangelo, granddaughter Khel McGeehan, and son-in-law David Coppenrath. Son of the late John and Julia (Ryder) Santangelo, Jack was raised and educated in Clinton and was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade High School, class of 1952. A proud patriot and veteran, Jack enlisted to serve our nation in the US Navy during the Korean War and was stationed aboard the USS Allagash as a Boiler Technician 2nd Class. He returned home safely to pursue studies in Art and his lifelong career as an artist. Jack completed his education at Washington School of Art, Clark University and Worcester Art Museum. He enjoyed his professional career as a graphic artist and art director, working for Holmes Graphics and Space Research Laboratories, before establishing, owning and operating Santangelo Advertising for many years until retiring. A true "Renaissance Man," Jack was blessed with a brilliant mind and was a master of many crafts. Among his various hobbies, Jack was a talented painter and photographer, avid gardener and fisherman. He devoted himself to family, notably as a faithful caregiver to his daughter Laurie and advocate for the MA Association of the Blind, serving as a former Board of Director. Above all, Jack was a proud patriarch, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Calling hours were held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton. Burial will later be held in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster.
