WALTER P. "MIZ" O'MALLEY Clinton-Walter P. "Miz" O'Malley, 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. He is reunited with his beloved wife of 70 years, Teresa (Murphy) O'Malley, their son, Paul F. O'Malley, and daughter Kathleen O'Malley. He is survived by his daughter, Maureen Banks of Clinton; and son, Kevin V. O'Malley of Boylston; 5 grandchildren, Daniel O'Malley; Brendon O'Malley & wife Liz; Beth O'Malley; Brian O'Malley & wife Jess; and Paul O'Malley & wife Sarah; 9 great-grandchildren: Avery, Rorey, Raegan, Harrison, Madison, Kayla, Kelsey, Mary Kathleen, and Paul Michael O'Malley; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He is pre-deceased by his brother, Rev. Paul F. O'Malley, and son-in-law, Norman Banks. A lifelong resident of the Germantown neighborhood of Clinton, Miz was the son of the late Walter & Lillian (Kappel) O'Malley. He graduated from the Clinton High School, Class of 1943, and enlisted to serve our nation in the US Marine Corps at the age of 17 before continuing studies at Dartmouth College. He would soon be deployed for service overseas, where he, as a member of the 5th Marine Division, participated in the first wave invasion of Iwo Jima. Wounded in action, Mr. O'Malley was a recipient of the Purple Heart Award with numerous commendations for Meritorious Service. In 2019, he was honored in ceremony with the Clinton VFW Post 523 rededicated in his name. Upon his return home from service, Miz spent his professional career with the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, working as a meat manager in the Clinton and Fitchburg stores before becoming a corporate supervisor for the Northeast District. Mr. O'Malley later accepted a position as an Assessor for the Town of Clinton, where he worked until retiring. Well respected in his community, Miz was an Honor Key Recipient and life member of the Clinton Turn Verein, Clinton VFW, Elks Lodge, Lions Club, and Knights of Columbus. Miz enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, including the surroundings of family and friends, cheering on his New York Giants, sharing stories of the past, playing cribbage, and a cold beer. His legacy and memory will forever live on. Calling hours will be held from 2 until 5PM on Sunday, April 23, 2023 in the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM on Monday, April 24, 2023 in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton, with burial to follow in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster.
