CLINTON — Elma "Frances" Hall Sutton, 85, of 2561 Southeast Blvd., passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2022 at her home.
The service will be 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 14, at Rowan Baptist Church with yhe Rev. Clay Carter officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately after the service.
Frances, born Feb. 2, 1937 in Sampson County, was the daughter of the late Ernie Jefferson Hall and Ethel Draughon Hall.
She was the homemaker and a member of Rowan Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guthrie Jefferson "G. J." Sutton and siblings Grover Lee Hall, Noel Devon Hall, David Ray Hall, and Emma Faye Rhinhart.
Survivors include her children, Jeff Sutton, Lynn Sutton Webster and husband, Terrell, Allen Sutton, Connie Sutton Bryant and Mac Sutton and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Collynn Sutton Webster Finch and husband, Josh, Zannah Terrell Webster, Amanda Madison Sutton, George Cody Bryant and Rachel Catherine Bryant; great-grandchildren, Joshua Flowers "Finn" Finch, Jr. and Whitley Sutton Finch.
Frances and G.J raised their family working on their farm in the Rowan Community and were long time active members of Rowan Baptist Church.
When Frances' children were grown and moved out, she had a second career as a teacher at Kids Only, her daughter Lynn's pre-school. She taught the "baby class" and we always said it was ideal for young parents to hand their young ones to her because she was such a warm and nurturing lady. As her little students grew up, they were always excited to "run into" Miss Frances about town and she was always delighted to see them.
Later in life, Frances faced some health challenges, but, true to form, she met them with courage and dignity. She was a much loved and admired lady in her community and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
