Harold Edgerton Obituary

CLINTON — Harold "Quincy" Edgerton, Jr., 71, passed away Jan. 14, 2022.

Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve. — Martin Luther King Jr.

His Master said to him, "Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful and trustworthy over a little, I will put you in charge of many things; share in the joy of your Master. — Matthew 25:23

There are not enough words to describe or honor our good and faithful servant. Harold "Quincy" Edgerton Jr. will forever be remembered in our hearts and our minds as a loving husband, father and PaPa. QE, to those in the know, was a child of The Greatest Generation. He was born to Harold and Mary Edgerton in the small town of Godwin just after Thanksgiving in 1950. He would be the older brother to Kathy and David, honing his leadership skills early.

A cornerstone of his rural Harnett County upbringing was an unyielding faith in God and a work ethic born of necessity. The graduate of the 1969 class of Clinton High School furthered his education at Guilford College in Greensboro. Quincy then returned home four short but impactful years later to join the family business, NC Marble & Granite.

Soon after, he met the woman that he would spend forever with, Marcia Stanley. After a few serenades with an old six string there was no doubt that forever is the future for these two. This couple united before God, family and friends on the last day of May in 1975. Their marriage provided a visible example of love and devotion as if crafted directly from Corinthians 13. Early on in the start of their young lives Quincy knew that a life worth living must be a life of service, "that service to humanity is the best work of life". Not only did he believe in this creed of his beloved JAYCEEs, he lived it-lived it with a merry band of brothers that shared in this desire to serve.

For the next forty plus years Quincy joyfully served his community in multitude of ways, some silent and discrete and some with proclamations and a gavel, but always service above self. Mount Gilead Baptist Church, the people and the building, served as his foundation for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that grew stronger and stronger throughout the years.

Our hero taught us that the best lessons in life are usually the hardest, that words without deeds are worthless. A life of purpose combined with a resolve to always stand firm in your beliefs, no matter the cost, is priceless.

Quincy's life of service is an example, a goal, a benchmark for us all, but specifically to his two sons Jason (Catrinia) and Jeremy (Amanda) who saw and experienced this life first hand. These young boys grew into men who cherish their wives just as their father did. As the cycle of life continues on to the next generations the lessons of their father will be passed on to their children; Madison, Justin, Emily and Ella Kate.

While we are devastated at our loss we choose to set aside our pain and celebrate the life of this extraordinary man. An invitation to remember and celebrate Quincy was held 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 16 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home and 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 18, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Come as you are, we love as Jesus loved-unconditionally.

To continue the legacy of selfless service please offer donations/tributes to Mt. Gilead Baptist Church as you feel led.
