Lonnie Monk
Lonnie Monk, the beloved husband, and father of six sons passed away on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, at the age of 61 in Hamilton, New Jersey. Born to Weldon and Mary Magdalene Monk on Sept. 5, 1960, Lonnie shared this birthday with Ronnie, his twin brother. Originally from Roseboro, North Carolina, Lonnie and three of his siblings were reared in the home of his late paternal grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Strickland Monk. In addition to his parents, Lonnie was preceded in death by his sister Delbra Monk and his brother Jimmy Monk.
A product of the Sampson County Schools, Lonnie graduated from Lakewood High School in 1978. Desiring to further his education, he later attended Apex Technical School in Queens, New York, where he received his certification in Automotive Mechanics. Known for his entrepreneurial spirit, Lonnie was the founder of Lonnie's Auto Repair, located in Newark, NJ. Cars. Coming from a line of experienced auto mechanics, it was no surprise that Lonnie would pursue this profession. Not willing to leave anyone behind, Lonnie gave job opportunities to many.
A servant at heart, Lonnie was known for his generous spirit and love for people. This was evident in his daily interactions. He had a great passion for helping people in need. He loved spending time with his family, traveling, cooking, and dining out. He loved making people laugh. His jovial personality was contagious.
Reared in a God-fearing home as a teenager, Lonnie joined the Snow Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Roseboro, NC. As he progressed in life, Lonnie felt the call to establish a personal relationship with his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Left to cherish his precious memories are his beloved wife of 37 years, Deborah Monk of Hamilton, NJ, and his sons, Chris Bennett of Hamilton, NJ, Andrew Haney of Pemberton, NJ, Antwan (Rose) Monk of Perth Amboy, NJ, Lonnie Monk Jr, and Brian Monk of Hamilton, NJ, and Marcus Williams of South Carolina, and one grandson, Damien Monk of Perth Amboy, NJ. He has his twin brother, Ronnie Monk of Saudi Arabia, his sisters, Dr. Mary Gillam, Col (Ret), USAF of Lorton, VA, Barbara Williams (Paul) of Raleigh, NC, his brother, Clarence Monk of Fayetteville, NC, his sisters-in-law, Cheryl Haney of New Brunswick, NJ, Chrystal Taylor of Durham, NC, Tiffany Taylor, of Charlotte, NC, and his brothers-in-law, Robbie Taylor of Terrytown, NY, Donald L. Haney (Daphne) of Staten Island, NY, Kevin Haney; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to include Phillip Ali, whom he treated like a son.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, Aug. 27, from 9 to 10 am. at Brenna Funeral Home, Immordino Chapel, 1799 Klockner Road, Hamilton, NJ 08619.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Brenna Funeral Home, Immordino Chapel.
Burial will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.

I am So Very Saddened to hear of the passing of my wonderful friend Lonnie. He was and always be 1 of the "GREATEST PEOPLE " that I ever knew. He will be Truly Missed by Donna and myself. May He rest in Eternal Peace. I Miss You, Brother. RIP LONNIE.
