Ralph S. Bass, 86
SPIVEY'S CORNER — Ralph Shelton Bass, 86, passed away on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, March 2 at 3 p.m. at Shady Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church with Dr. Kenneth Benton, officiating. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Bass was born on Dec. 20, 1927 in Sampson County to the late Ralph and Anna Mack Baggett Bass. A graduate of Plain View High School, Mr. Bass was a farmer for 70 years and also served as an agent-broker for Cates Pickle Company for 35 years. He was a member of Shady Grove OFW Baptist Church.
Mr. Bass is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Gladys McCullen Bass; a son, Terry Shelton Bass and wife, Marsha of Dunn; a daughter, Charlene Bass Smith of Raleigh; grandsons, Elliott Larson Bass of Dunn, Jacob Enrique Smith and Zachary Shelton Smith of Raleigh; granddaughters, Anna Catherine Bass and McKenzie Blair Bass of Wilmington; two sisters, Sybil Bass West and husband, Hoyet West of Dunn and Georgia Bell Bass of The Woodlands, Texas; and caregiver, Bertha Davis.
The family received friends at West & Dunn Funeral Home, Newton Grove on Saturday, March 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the home.
