NEWTON GROVE — Mrs. Shelby Darden Wilson, 87, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother departed for her heavenly home on Saturday morning, Nov. 23, 2024, at Rolling Ridge Assisted Living of Newton Grove.
Born in 1937, in Sampson County, Shelby was the daughter of the late Joseph Mack and Meta Sutton Darden and was the second oldest of seven children. Shelby was married to Charles Sprunt Wilson for 57 years. She was a member of Keener Methodist Church and attended as her health permitted. In her younger years, she served as a Sunday School teacher and in the women's ministry. The church held a special place in her heart. After working at Lundy Packing Company for over 20 years, she enjoyed her career at Hog Slat, Inc. as Office Manager until her retirement.
Shelby leaves behind the following to forever cherish her memory; her two daughters, Melanie Wilson Askew (Durwood, Jr) and Charlene Wilson Jones (Phillip) both of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Maygan Smith (Justin), Bill Jordan (Katlyn), Alex Askew (Ashley), Sidney Askew, Lily Askew, Katie Hall, (Caleb) and Patrick Jones; seven great-grandchildren, Landen, Maggie Jo, Henry, Harvey, Lawson, Thatcher and Beckett; two sisters, Peggy Byrd (Larry) of Dunn and Dale Weeks (Gary) of Clinton; two brothers, Jerry Darden of Texas and Keith Darden (Charlene) of Nags Head; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
A service to commemorate the life of Shelby will be held Monday, Nov. 25, 4 p.m. at Keener Methodist Church with Pastor Jeremy Hair officiating. Visitation will follow the service. A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 26, 11 a.m. at Grandview Memorial Park. Friends and family are also welcome to visit at her home.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff at Rolling Ridge Assisted Living. They have treated our mom and family with love and care. We are truly thankful. We would also like to express our appreciation to Gentiva Hospice for the excellent care and guidance they gave our mom and our family. Shelby will truly be missed. We will remember her sweet smile and strong, faithful spirit. Nothing made her happier than having her family all together.
