Mr. William Scott McLeod, 55, of 1194 Lamms Grove Road, Carthage, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 17.
Born on July 27, 1969, in Columbia, SC., Scott was the son of William Robert "Bob" McLeod and Jean Lyles McLeod. Growing up in Clinton, NC, Scott learned early that success comes only with hard work, and he carried that mindset throughout his life. He received many accolades in an illustrious career that included sales, management, and operational roles. He was most recently the Chief Operations Officer at Fields & Fowler in Carthage. His work ethic was unmatched; on the job, on the farm, in any endeavor. He was a servant leader, always looking for ways to support the well-being of those around him and his community.
An Eagle Scout and a boat captain, Scott loved being outside and cherished his time on the water. He studied Mechanical Engineering at NC State and as a lifelong fan, spent countless days and nights cheering on the Wolfpack. He was a true dog lover: Midnight and Black Dog were his past faithful companions, and he is survived by Sampson, who was with him in the end.
An accomplished chef and the consummate host, Scott loved preparing a meal for his family and friends; be it grilled grouper bites for a party of six, or a whole hog for a crowd of 100, the food and fellowship was always amazing. He considered no expense too large, and no effort too great. He would literally give you the shirt off his back. He loved spoiling his nephew, Mac, and his godson, John Blaney Williams, and he treated his friends' kids as if they were his own, making rounds to visit them during the holidays and always remembering a birthday.
"McLeod" maintained deep, life-long friendships with several childhood friends who he considered more like brothers than just friends. He enjoyed countless weekends with them over the years, whether it be golfing, hunting, fishing, traveling, or just hanging out listening to music and solving the world's problems. In addition to this brotherhood, he had many other cherished friendships. His fierce faith, love, and loyalty shone through in everything that he did, and underneath his tough exterior was a compassionate heart of gold. If you wanted or needed anything, Scott was your guy. If he couldn't do it, he knew someone who could. He'll be missed by so many and leaves a void in so many places.
Family gatherings, large and small, were a constant throughout Scott's life. Left to cherish his memory from this loving family are: his sister, Kelly McLeod Allen and husband, David, of Raleigh; nephew, William McLeod Allen of Raleigh; maternal aunt: Linda Austin and husband Paul of Coronado, Ca.; Paternal aunts: Nancy Coggins and husband Wayne of Greensboro; Rebecca Brown (preceded in death by husband Ed) of Aberdeen; Sarah McLeod of Pinehurst; paternal uncle John McLeod and wife Teresa of Carthage, NC; and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
A small graveside service will be held for family and close friends at Lamms Grove Church Cemetery, Carthage, on Friday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m. A visitation will be held in the fellowship hall at his childhood church, Graves Memorial Presbyterian on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. At other times, the family will receive guests at 110 Tomahawk Trail, Clinton.
Scott was a faithful supporter of numerous charities. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/), Cru NCSU (https://give.cru.org/), or a charity dear to you.
The family would like to express their deep love for Scott and sincere appreciation for the kindness being shown to them in the wake of this tremendous loss.
John 16:33, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
