Anita Louise Winkles

GUM BRANCH – Anita Louise Winkles, 82, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in Savannah, surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Santa Monica, Calif., she was raised in Washington state before following her husband during his military career, eventually settling in Hinesville in 1975.
She retired as personnel director from Liberty Memorial Hospital, was secretary for New Sunbury Baptist Association and worked several years for Jackson–Hewitt.
She received her master's degree in human resources from St. Leo College.
She was a member of Gum Branch Baptist Church, where she taught the Senior Ladies' Sunday School Class for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Donald Winkles; son, David Winkles; sister, Ardith Holstrom; and two grandchildren.
Survivors are her sons, John Winkles (Mary Len) of Fleming and Paul Winkles (Melissa) of Guyton; sisters, Verna Van Aken of Springfield, Mo.; and PaulaKay Silvey of Hinesville; stepbrother, Kenneth Charters (Staci) of Tulsa, Okla.; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, special friends from school, Jackie Rainbolt, Carolyn Moran, Alfaretta McQuarrie and Roberta Vincent.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, March 29, at 11 a.m. at Gum Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Gabe Gill officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
