Brooks Alton Moody transitioned this life Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He was born Jan. 13, 1928 in Liberty County and was preceded in death by his mother Lillie Mae Moody Fabian, loving and devoted Grandparents Shelton and Bessie Moody, one sister Laura Mae Pray, one brother Roland Fabian and one son Julius Alton Moody.
He attended school in Liberty County at Taylor Creek and Claxton High School in Evans County.
At an early age he was baptized at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Groveland, Georgia. There he received Christ as his Savior. He was united in Holy matrimony to the late Carrie Eva (Brewton) Moody and to this union six children were born.
He was an ardent and dedicated member of First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church for 69 years where he served faithful and loyal servant. He served as Chairman of the Deacons Ministry for 7 years and was made Deacon Emeritus when his health began to fail. He also served in the following ministries: Pastor's Aide Board, Usher Board, Nursing Home Ministry, Church and Grounds.
His love and compassion for people went beyond his church work, he was also involved in many community outreach ministries: Tattnall Association, helping the elderly with home repairs, renovating buildings and gardening.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories one son, James H (Cheryl) Moody of Petersburg, Virginia; four daughters, Marion Rockett of Savannah, Georgia, Catherine (Kitty) Moody of Ludowici, Georgia, Mattie Maude Green of Ludowici, Georgia, Jeri Ann Moody of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one step son Anthony (Brenda) Moody of Savannah, Georgia; foster son Pate Cray; one brother Joe Lewis Fabian of Hinesville Georgia; a special friend Maggie Anderson; eighteen grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; two nieces, four nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation is 6-7 p.m. Aug. 31 at Dorchester Funeral Home. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Sept. 1 at First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
