Ligie Hampton Obituary

Ligie "Dave" Hampton, 62, of Hinesville died Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Candler Hospital.
Dave was born on April 16, 1947, in Blackey, Ky. He served his country in the U.S. Army, which took him to many different places including Italy, Germany and numerous appointments in the United States. While in Italy, Dave met the love of his life, Gabriella, and the two were married in 1966. He later served in the Vietnam War and, in 1986, was stationed in Fort Stewart where he would retire in 1987.
During his military career Dave received numerous awards for his service including The High Performance Award for Excellence, The Army Commendation Medal, The Army Achievement Medal, The Meritorious Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, The Army Achievement Medal and The Army Safety Award.
After retirement, Dave worked for the city of Hinesville and OMI. Dave enjoyed his family and working in his yard.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gabriella Hampton of Hinesville; one son and daughter-in-law, William and Melissa Hampton of Richmond Hill; one daughter and son-in-law, Elisa and Ricky Mehaffey of Allenhurst; four grandchildren, Madison Marie Mehaffey, William Joseph Hampton Jr., Sarah Alaina Mehaffey and Carter Thomas Hampton; one sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Vernol Hatton of Kentucky; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews, all of Italy.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.
Active pallbearers will be Juan Fabian, Sam Kennedy, Larry Baker, David Bradley, Henry Wilson and Joseph Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of OMI.
Burial will follow in the Hinesville Cemetery with full military honors.
Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6600 Abercorn Street Ste.206, Savannah, GA 31405.
Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel, www.carteroglethorpe.com, is in charge of arrangements.
