Valerie Smith Obituary
The Otero County, N.M. native was a resident of Long County for the past 20 years, a first grade teacher at Smiley Elementary School, and a member of Tibet Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 12 years, Jimmy Smith of Ludowici; a son, Trysten Smith of Ludowici; her father, Mike Futch of Ludowici; her mother and stepfather, Nancy and Paul Jarka of Alamogordo, N.M.; a brother, William Hank Futch of Fort Bliss, Texas; a sister, Brandy Futch Swann of Alamogordo; two stepsisters, Trina Strempke of Alamogordo and Jessica Blanchard of Las Cruces, N.M.; a stepbrother, Carl Jarka of Austin, Texas; maternal grandmother, Clara Zamora of Alamogordo; paternal grandparents, Margaret Bullard of Ludowici and M.F. and Jeannie Futch of Shellman Bluff; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Ludowici First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Ludowici First Baptist Church with the Revs. Paul Weldon, Eric Rentz Fred Vedingfield officiating. Interment will be in the Jones Creek Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Justin Hall, Clint Baxter, Buddy Reddish, Carl Futch, David Futch and Daryl Futch.
Memorials may be made to the Valerie Futch Smith Memorial Fund, C/O The Heritage Bank.
The Rinehart & Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of the arrangements.

Even thou, Mrs.Smith wasn't my son's teacher, he come home from school and talk about how nice she and Mrs. Whaley are and was to him. She made him feel really good about himself when he was feeling blue. She always had a great big smile on her face whenever I see her in the halls and was such a very nice teacher. Nathan was so upset about her loose and he's going to miss seeing her and her hugs and her wonderful words of wisdom. May she rest in peace. My son says she's with the angels and his adopted auntie Shirly. And she's looking down on her son and protecting him and loving him always. Me and my family send our deepest sympathy's to the Smith family in their time of need and saddness. God Bless you all.

Jimmy, Trysten & family,
I am so sorry that you are having to endure this painful time. Valerie was a very good friend in school and she grew up to be an outstanding mother. It was evidenced by the many times she came to Trysten's activities even when she didn't feel like it. She was very devoted and she loved her family! Alamogordo and Valerie and I were good friends she lived in the same neighborhood as I. We spent many summer evenings riding our bikes. I lost contact with her after she moved. She was a great friend.
