William Slade Obituary

William Hill Slade, Jr., 79, of Riceboro, GA, passed away Wednesday, September 1st at Liberty Regional Medical Center.

"Big Bill" was born August 25, 1942 in Savannah, GA to the late Jule Laffitte Slade and William Hill Slade, Sr., both of Savannah, GA. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his baby brother Charles Slade, and grandson, Joshua Loftus. He is survived by his brother George Slade (wife Nancy) who resides in Virginia, and 5 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his friend and former wife Patty Jean Cowart (mother of his children), his son William Morris Slade (wife Kimberly Hall Slade), and his daughter Tracy Slade Loftus. Bill has four living grandchildren: William Ryan Slade, Morgan Andrew Slade, Sarah Slade, Joseph Loftus, and 5 great grandchildren who loved their "Pa-Pa" dearly.

Bill retired from Interstate Paper after working many years as a Machine Maintenance Mechanic, and also served as Supervisor. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Those who knew him best would say he was really good at both! He was also a very entertaining storyteller! Bill was a true patriot, who dearly loved his country and defended the values it was founded on. When at home, you could count on finding Bill in his big comfy chair with all four of his beloved dogs (Bear, Chloe, Nugget, and Angel) snuggled in his lap. He had a warm smile, a huge heart, and he loved his family and friends dearly. "Big Bill" Slade was a good man, loved by many, and he will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like for you to make a donation to Carpathia Paws or to your favorite charity in memory of "Big Bill".

Services will be held on a future date, when conditions permit, a special gathering of family and friends will be planned to celebrate his life.

Words can't explain what impact this man and his family made upon my life growing up at Lake George, they where my family too. It was heart breaking when I stumbled upon this randomly reading obituaries actually looking for someone else. Morris, Tracy, Kim, Patty and the rest of the family, you have my true condolences. HE WAS A GREAT MAN WITH A HUGE HEART. I'll never forget the adventures we went on including camping, football games, going out on shrimping boat and so many other parts of my childhood. I was lucky enough to see him and hug his neck several months back when I realized we had a mutual friend and took a trip over to his house. He was the same Bill (Mr. Slade to me) as always. I also told that friend every time he was going over to Bill's to tell him I loved him. I'm sure you've likely had the Family/Friends service but if not I'd love it if I could be part of it. I can be reached at [email protected].
I love you guys. Penny
