Freda Morris Obituary

World Traveler Freda Morris Passes
Freda Morris, Catholic, 30-year resident of Loomis, Ca., born on a farm in Kansas, and the daughter of Ray and Hilda Simon, sister to Pauline, Tom, Mary, Marlene, and Jeannie, led a life of love and respect for all who knew her. In 1952, a few months into her 19th year, Freda met her lifetime mate and partner, Jack Morris, an Air Force Korean War veteran, as office neighbors at Wichita's McConnell Air Force Base. She was the secretary to the airport manager and he a newsman for the military. It was love at first sight and within 6-weeks, they married, and honeymooned to California. They were married 66 years.
Freda's desire to see the world was encouraged and fully supported by her husband and soon they were vacationing on one continent after the other. Her favorite visits were to Kenya's Serengeti Plain, the week she lived on a small boat in Ecuador's Galapagos, her 2-weeks in the Holy Lands, and hiking about the ruins of Peru's Machu Picchu. When she began to weaken with the years, she then switched to seeing the world from boats. Cruising became everything for her as she visited the rivers of Germany's Rhine, Russia's Volga, and China's Yangtze. Cruising the oceans became a twice a year event and it was on a recent cruise through the Panama Canal that she discovered a slight hand tremor. She didn't know at the time that she was in the early phase of the deadly Parkinson disease.
Freda and Jack had three children, Brian, Paul, and Julie. Brian lives in Auburn, Julie in Loomis, and Paul passed away in 2010 in San Diego from lung cancer.
As part of Freda's community contributions, she joined the Loomis Lions Club and participated in all of the community services generated by the club alongside husband Jack. She became the club's secretary and was forced to leave the club after several years when her Parkinson disease worsened.
During the early evening of 10 January, at their home on Awesome Hill, overlooking the Loomis Basin, and while holding hands with her husband, Freda's travel passport was stamped for the last time. It was sealed with a heart as she passed through the gates of Heaven.

Saying goodby was such sweet sorrow. Feeling her loss now almost unbearable. Life for me without her must rely on memories we built together. My talks with her will continue forever despite being temporarily apart.
