Frederick Mann Obituary

Frederick (Fred) Mann

Fort Collins - Frederick (Fred) Mann, of Fort Collins, passed away suddenly at home on March 26th, 2021, at the age of 67.

Fred was born on July 18th, 1953, in Galesburg Illinois, to Allen (Al) and Margaret L (Peggy) Mann. He was the oldest of two children.

Fred met his future wife, Sheilah while still in high school in Littleton Colorado. The two were married on June 1st, 1974. Together they had two children.

Fred graduated from Colorado State University in 1977, with a master's degree in electrical engineering.

Fred worked for Hewlett Packard for 30 years. He went into management shortly after starting at HP. During his time at HP Fred was a quality manager and helped manage the relationship between Intel and HP among other roles.

Fred retired in 2007. Fred enjoyed spending time with his family, playing bridge, traveling, visiting national parks, and trains. He and his wife decided to combine their love of trains and gardening and started a garden railroad in 2013. Fred became very active in the Northern Colorado Garden Railroaders and eventually became their president. He loved helping people and was willing to do whatever he could for others.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents Al and Peggy. He is survived by his loving wife Sheilah Mann, brother Frank Mann (Teresa), his children Jennifer Vail (Ryan) and Jeffrey Mann (Sarah).

Fred worked in my team in Ft. Collins 1993-1995. I remember him being a very smart guy, commited to perform a high level quality job and standing out as a very loyal teamplayer. I also appreciated his special sense of humor. Once, he took me to a local ice hockey game where his son was a top performer. Fred was so proud of him. Sad to see him leaving that soon.

I enjoyed working with Fred for several years at HP. Fred was a consummate professional, extremely intelligent, and earned the respect and trust of all his colleagues. He was all business when it mattered, and a great guy with a terrific laugh the rest of the time. I’ll miss Fred.

I was only 7 when Fred became my only sister's Steady Freddy - which he didn't beat me up for calling him! He has been my big brother for nearly as long as the 2 I was born with, and he cared for me, supported me, and encouraged me. And what is more, he took great care of my beloved big sister, and gave me my first neice and nephew, who I dearly love. I will always love Fred. I'm so glad he was my brother, and I pray that I will see him again.
