Karlie MacKenzie Obituary

Karlie MacKenzie

Greeley - Karlie (Edie) MacKenzie, of Greeley, formerly of Fort Collins and Denver, passed away September 1, 2020, at the Medical Center of the Rockies. Karlie was born July 14, 1958, Fort Collins, Colorado, to Gordon and Lucille (Matson) MacKenzie.

Karlie grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado, and was an alumni of Colorado State University. Karlie worked in Aquatics and met her husband, Andy, at the Fort Collins Mulberry Pool. She was an avid fitness instructor and later became a teacher of children with disabilities. She transitioned to volunteer work and being a homemaker. Karlie absolutely lived for her family and her children were her inspiration and pride. She provided a loving home to many and relished her home surroundings and her beautiful back yard. She adored animals and was a loving pet owner and a rescuer to many dogs, cats, guinea pigs, fish and the occasional tarantula or snail. She had a fondness for pigs and always had a growing collection of items.

Karlie loved the outdoors and instilled the same passion in her family. She and Andy loved to travel when they could and she always looked forward to new journeys and adventures as well as time with extended family. Karlie had a wonderful sense of humor and humility. She was also a giver of unconditional love and empathy, her concern was never for herself, she was completely selfless. She maintained her own adolescent spunk throughout life; she loved great music and a good party. Karlie had an amazing memory and never forgot a name or an important detail.

Karlie is survived by her husband, Andy McRoberts, her son, Dylan (McClellan) McRoberts, of Denver, daughter, Rachel McRoberts, of Portland, sisters, Mary Ann (Bruce) Bradley and Kathleen (Nate) Andrews, numerous beloved nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews, as well as her much adored dog, Cinnamon, and her cat, Delilah.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Lu.

A Celebration of Life will be hosted at a later date. In lieu of any gifts or flowers, donations in Karlie's name may be made to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg (wildanimalsanctuary.org), the Hog Haven Farm in Deer Trail (hoghavenfarm.org) or the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program in Fort Collins (rmrp.org). I went to school with Karlie both at Lincoln and Poudre. She was always so beautiful inside and out. Coming to a new school mid term from another state was so difficult and she was one of the first to extend kindness to me. We lost touch after high school graduation and just today while I was with my grands at the municipal pool. I was remembering the pool in Fort Collins where she worked and thought about her for the first time in years. So I decided to look her up and was so very saddened to learn of her passing. I can see by her lovely obituary that she had a life well lived and so full of love that was her. My most heartfelt condolences to her family.

I am so shocked to hear of Karlie's passing. Karlie and I went to school together from Kindergarten, Lincoln Jr High, thru graduation from Poudre in 1976. She was always a stunning girl to a woman, Fantastic personality and Her smile would light up a room. Kathleen you will be in my prayers !!

I was so sorry to learn of Karlie's passing! I worked with her and MaryAnn ages ago at City Park Pool, as well as knowing Kat. Karlie was an energetic, positive, beautiful and smart co-worker. Condolences to her family, including both of her older sisters. Debbie Hershcopf Kennedy

Karlie was my bestfriend from Lincoln Jr High through Poudre HS. A large chunk of my adolescent years were spent in the Mackenzie "rumpus" room (reading Archie comic books and Seventeen magazine and listening to the Carpenters or Bread) or around the kitchen table with her dog Tookie and sisters. Her laugh was infectious and we laughed a lot.

Karlie was a natural athlete (swimming, tennis, gymnastics, ballet, cheerleading) and a talented artist. She was generous to a fault and kind.

We were in each other weddings and had our first babies near the same time. Shortly thereafter, life took us different places and directions. We didn't stay in close contact but her strings to my heart were never cut. I will be forever grateful for the unconditional love and acceptance she gave to me in our friendship.

Jay and I send our deepest condolences to Andy, Dylan and Rachel.
Much love, Glenna

I spent my formative years growing up with Karlie from Putnam Elementary to graduating at Poudre High School. Best memories were of the old Lincoln Jr. High, the hall ways, lunchroom, art class and the basketball cage where we watched the boys. There was Club Tico and City Park pool. Karlie was stunning. She always had the most amazing tan and beautiful smile. We shared a birthday and many sleepovers. I’m sure our many friends are just as sadden. My sincere condolences to her family.
