There is now a brick at the Livermore Community Center engraved with my favorite of the many haikus Mark sent me while he was out inspecting power poles. He is not forgotten.

I remember Mark often with gratitude and great fondness. And in the difficult years we’ve just experienced, I’ve been thinking his sudden passing was in some ways a blessing for him. But it was a privilege to have had him in my life, and I treasure all the good things and memories he gave me.

I met Mark at Mishuwaka where we both worked many, many years ago. I appreciated his baking skills and our shared interest in plants, his intelligence and of course his friendship over the years. Definitely one of my favorite dance partners! I've many fond memories of our time spent together, You are missed, Mark!

I am so very sorry to hear of Mark's passing. He truly was one of the nicest guys I have ever known. I know Mark from days long gone by when he would come to hear music at a small club I managed in Fort Collins. Always so polite...and truly a 'gentleman'. He will be sorely missed. Fly free, Mark, and enjoy the eternal music of the universe.

From Susie: Mark was beloved by my family and much like a brother to me. We were friends for 38 years. More recently, I worked with Mark power pole inspecting for 5 years. We traveled and camped together. I can think of few men in my life that I have had more love and respect for. Mark was a true joy and at times, a true challenge to be friends with. I could always count on him to be brutally honest and totally caring. We shared adventures ...books... cooking... brewing... and gardening. I counted on his insightful and intelligent opinions on current events and world politics. He had an artist's eye and a craftsman's hands. I think that he found true joy in his orchard and his dream of living off of his land. He took great pride in caring for his tenant's needs and in time came to call them some of his true friends.

From Steve: It was an honor to come to know Mark through Susie. He had a sarcastic wit and analytic perspective that made him a joy to talk with. We rode together from New Mexico to Colorado once when I was returning from visiting Susie there and there wasn't a moment of silence during the whole 10 hours as we jumped from topic to topic. I will forever be appreciative of him turning me on to Jimmie Hall and some other blues musicians I had missed in my quest to sample them all. I appreciated his watching over Susie while they traveled together and it was comforting to know she had a "brother" nearby to help if she needed it.

Here's the thing, Mark- know you will be missed by all of us who so enjoyed your time with us. Rest in peace my friend.

Mark - was more than life - when he smiled - we all smiled with him and his laughter filled the room.

Mark was a cowboy - a lineman - and always inquisitive. He collected hundreds of petrified rocks of all shapes and sizes and in his spare time visited rock shops for other petrified specimens. And he always shared them with his friends.

Mark was an indoor horticulturalist and loved the hundreds of cacti specimens that he raised and nurtured.

And when he wasn't searching for the perfect bread or pizza crust - he would spend hours cooking up other gourmet foods.

Mark was was also the king of the NY Times crossword puzzles. And his Haiku's were nothing less than poetic.

He will be missed.

We will miss your brilliant, unpredictable wit, your smile, and dancing with you. So glad we had the privilege of getting to know you.

Donnie and I will both miss Mark very much. I remember him with a big smile and a happy sincere laugh. We will cherish the memories of him helping us with the pizza business and such an easy way. I know it seems silly but I have a special memory of him making cannolis for our Christmas party. I guess we had an Italian theme one year and he said what can I bring. Cannolis of course were needed. He took it on as a challenge and procured the equipment he needed to make cannolis and brought them over several times. He also tutored our son Matthew for his sat's. Thank you Mark for the friendship and the dances. We will miss you. ❤ Donnie, Carolyn and Matthew Myers

I was a close friend of Mark's for many years. He was intellectual, extraordinarily well-read, fascinated by and deeply appreciative of nature and science, and a talented carpenter, cook, writer of haiku, & swing dancer. Most of all, I will miss his sense of humor. I wish him peace forever.
