Marjorie "Marjie" Miles, 86
Marjorie "Marjie" Leona Miles, 86, passed away on October 13, 2025, peacefully in the comfort of her home in Kirkland, surrounded by her family.
Marjie was born on June 6, 1939, in Ritzville, Washington, to Ruth and Harold Huse. She grew up on a dryland wheat farm just outside of Lind, Washington, and graduated from Lind High School in 1957. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Education in 1969 and her Master of Education in 1991, both from Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
After graduating from Eastern, Marjie accepted her first teaching position in Moses Lake which was the start of a 30-year teaching career. It was there she met Mark Miles, and in 1971, they were married and enjoyed 44 years together.
Marjie retired in 1999 and spent her time enjoying yardwork, traveling, and being with her family. Her love of gardening was clear to everyone who knew her. She typically woke up before sunrise to meticulously tend to her roses and flowerbeds.
When not working in the yard, Marjie and Mark liked to travel. They explored many U.S. historical sites and interesting destinations such as New York City and the Grand Canyon.
What Marjie cherished most was time spent with her family, especially during the holidays. Her legacy will live on through future generations in tradition started by her mother - baking and decorating "Grammy Cookies." Marjie and her sister Julie would spend days preparing these highly anticipated treats for their entire extended family and friends.
Marjie is survived by her children Rich (Allison) Miles, Jeff (Kari) Miles, Brent Widener; grandsons Robert, Colin, and Matthew; siblings David (Sandy) Huse, Julie Larson; sister-in-law Lonnie Huse; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by husband Mark, parents Harold and Ruth, brother Dennis Huse, and son Kevin Widener.
A celebration of life will be scheduled for a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marjie's honor can be made to InvestED - an organization that provides help to students to improve their attendance, engagement, and graduation rates.
