CHARLES AUBURG Obituary

CHARLES DOUGLAS AUBURG
April 13, 1942 ˜ June 5, 2024

Charles Douglas “Doug” Auburg, aged 82, passed away on June 5, 2024, in Battle Ground, WA. Born on April 13, 1942, in Vancouver, WA, Doug lived a life marked by a profound passion for knowledge and an enduring curiosity.

Doug graduated from Hudson’s Bay High School and continued his education at Washington State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He furthered his studies at Lewis & Clark College, obtaining a Master’s in Public Administration. His academic pursuits laid a solid foundation for his career at the Bonneville Power Administration, where he dedicated many years of service.

Beyond his professional life, Doug was a devoted enthusiast of model railroads, trains, photography, and genealogy. His hobbies were not just pastimes but a significant part of who he was, allowing him to connect with others and share his passions.

Doug was a loving father to Jodi (Josephine Auburg) Ponce and David Auburg, and a caring brother to Ina Booth. He also was an influential uncle to Kelleigh Bryant and John Bryant. Joining the family mourning Doug’s passing are the many members of the Columbia Gorge Model Railroad Club, The National Model Railroad Association, and the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tamara Auburg, his sister, Delores Rukke, and his parents, Charles and Josephine Auburg.

A celebration of Doug’s life will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024 in the Lodge Room, located at the Vancouver Elks Lodge (11605 SE McGillivray Blvd, Vancouver, WA 98683).

In place of flowers, contributions can be made in Doug’s memory to the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad (PO Box 1271, Battle Ground, WA 98604), the Columbia Gorge Model Railroad Club (https://cgmrc.com/donate), or the National Model Railroad Association (https://www.nmra.org/store/donations). These organizations reflect his lifelong hobbies and are fitting recipients to honor his memory.

In the short time I knew Doug I grew to appreciate his passion for the important things in his life family, knowledge and , of course, trains. He was always willing to share his knowledge on any subject. His sense of humor was quick and to the point. He never missed the chance to make someone smile or laugh. Rest in Peace my friend.
