Michael McMahon Obituary

MICHAEL (MIKE) E MCMAHON
January 5, 1941 ˜ February 15, 2025

Michael E. McMahon, aged 84, passed away on Feb. 15, 2025, in Vancouver, WA. Born on Jan. 5, 1941, Mike, as he was affectionately known, lived a life marked by dedication, humor, and love.
Mike’s early education took place at Cathedral Schools in Sioux Falls, followed by Fort Vancouver High School. He furthered his education at Chemeketa Community College. His commitment to service was evident from his years with the Oregon Air National Guard, where he served for five years, demonstrating the discipline and camaraderie that would define much of his life.
Professionally, Mike was a man of many talents. His career began in the Forestry Service and on the Railroad before he discovered his passion for carpentry. This led him to co-found McMahon & Pyper Construction in the 1970s. His adventurous spirit took him to Alaska in the 1980s, where he enjoyed working and living in the rugged landscape. He later served the community of Clark County as a code enforcement officer until his retirement. Post-retirement, he enjoyed life in Coulee City with his wife, Carol, engaging in golf, RVing, and relaxing.
Mike’s life was also marked by his love for the outdoors. An avid hunter, fisherman, and camper, he cherished the time spent in nature from his youngest days. He was competitive in sports like golf, tennis, and racquetball and even took up scuba diving, pursuing yet another dream.
Mike was a loyal friend and a committed family man. He is survived by his daughter, Maryanne Alkhoraigi; granddaughters, Kimber McMahon Conrad and Lamiya Alkhoraigi; sisters, Pam Strand, Kathy Brown, Molly Brandenburg, and Margaret Leedom; and a brother, Terry McMahon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol McMahon; son, Mike P. McMahon; grandson, Laeth Alkhoraigi; and his parents, Dale and Phyllis McMahon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ray Hickey House in memory of Mike. His legacy of humor, loyalty, and love endures through his family and all who knew him.

Mike's family and mine were neighbors in Battle Ground in the 70's/80's. He built the house I still live in. I remember him as a hard working individual with a warm smile and friendly comment. We lost touch over the years but when I remember him, it is always with a memory of friendship. My sympathies to you Maryanne.

I worked in Clark County as a Deputy Fire Marshal from 1993-2003 and had a chance to work with Mike on several occasions. Being in enforcement can be challenging, but he was always cool headed, kind and well liked. I was young at the time so his demeanor and interactions had a lasting impact on me. He was a great guy!
