Arlen Beck Obituary

LEIGH - Arlen Beck, 80, of Leigh, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha.

Arrangements are pending with Kracl-Leigh Memorial Chapel in Leigh.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh with the Rev. Brad Birtell officiating. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery in Leigh. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Leigh Chapel, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are to the family wishes.

Lunch will be served in the church school basement.

Arlen Henry Beck was born Dec. 15, 1931, in Leigh, to Henry and Ella (Lenz) Beck. He graduated from Leigh High School where he was a star football player. On Oct. 14, 1950, he married Marian Muhle at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Creston. They lived in Leigh where Arlen worked construction with his father and later owned Beck Construction. Arlen built his own home as well as many homes in Leigh and the surrounding communities. He was a voting and active member of Zion Lutheran Church. He also served and was honored for 60 years with the Leigh Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief and was an instructor at the State Fire School in Grand Island. Arlen was also a member of the Rescue Squad before they separated from the Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Marian of Leigh; two daughters, Rita (Peter) Macari, Scottsdale, Ariz., Cheryl (John) Lawson, Omaha; one sister, Evelyn (Phil) Siegle of Wiebaux, Mont.; brother, Ronald (Sharolyn) Beck, Omaha,  four grandchildren, Amanda and Greg Lawson of Omaha, Rachael (Josh) Cook of Phoenix, and Darin (Saralee) Macari of Queen Creek, Ariz. Arlen is also survived by five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents.
